Fashion isn't just about big, sweeping changes. It isn't just about short or long hemlines, tight or loose shapes, neutral or bright colors.Fashion is also about details. It's about knowing when to mix and when to match; about knowing which shoes look good with which outfit; about knowing that the difference between looking current and looking like last year's news can be as subtle as whether you zip your coat or button it. This fall, you'll probably want to zip it.The zipper has emerged as the favorite design detail of the season, turning up in usual places as the closure on a bomber jacket, on the side of high boots, as a trouser fly and in not-so-usual ones.

Jason Berkowitz sold his Baltimore County townhouse more quickly than he thought possible . Getting a new place? Not so easy. I shared his story a month ago, when he'd just accepted a contract on his home in Lutherville-Timonium after only six days on the market. He was concerned about the lack of inventory he was seeing, especially in the sweet spot of homes with asking prices that accurately reflect their condition, but hoped more was just about to hit for the spring selling season.

My husband and I have long used a post office box at the Roland Park post office for business mail. Our street address includes the letter “B,” which presents a problem for mail sorters and carriers, who don't know that our house is separate from the one next door with identical numbers, but no letter. The post office box has always been a prompt way to receive mail until recently. Mail addressed to our box now seems to arrive later than mail that comes to the house.

AN OLD FRIEND of mine lives in San Francisco, which is a great place to live if you don't mind the Earth splitting open occasionally and buildings collapsing around you.Anyway, Steve called the other day to say that the Bay Area had been hit by another earthquake just before dawn. Apparently, it was a pretty good jolt, too -- 4.1 on the Richter scale.Me, I'm the type of person who gets jittery watching Jell-O quiver in a bowl.If the walls started shaking and I got flung out of bed by an earthquake at 4 in the morning, I'd be knocking back fistfuls of Valium like they were Tic-Tacs.

Annapolis-area residents who live east of the Severn River will have a new ZIP code beginning in July, a change necessitated by rapid growth in the city and its outskirts, said officials of the U.S. Postal Service. About 7,000 residents of the Broadneck Peninsula will use 21409 to replace the 21401 code they have used since 1963. Residents of downtown Annapolis will keep 21401. "We're approaching the maximum number of people who can be served under the existing code, so in order to maintain our level of service, we have to add a new five-digit code," said Bob Novak, a spokesman for the postal service.

Since launching its Scenic Arnold campaign last spring, the Arnold Preservation Council has been trying to answer a seemingly simple question: What makes Arnold Arnold? Is it the expansive farms and lush foliage? The scenic waterfront? Or is it the easy-to-remember 21012 ZIP code? "Our big conundrum is that most people don't know that Arnold is anything other than a ZIP code, and we don't have a single town center," said Sage Mumma, president of the council. "We don't even know what we're going to call ourselves.

Batimore has hit another symbolic threshhold -- for the first time in three decades, fewer than 200 people have been killed in the city. A decade ago, city cops broke the 300 barrier. The Sun's Justin Fenton reports today on how that milestone was achieved and what it means . Justin wrote: "Though Baltimore is still among the most deadly cities per capita, as murder has declined more steeply across the country, the drop extends an overall downward trend in gun violence here over since 2007, the year Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III took office.

Editor: I just finished reading the letter to the editor entitled "Be prepared to tax others in Bel Air" and I think that Ms. Stritch may not see the big picture. First and foremost the "Festival at Bel Air" lies within the 21015 ZIP code which is one of two ZIP codes listed as Bel Air. So I would say that the Festival at Bel Air is an accurate title. Let's remember that not just the incorporated town of Bel Air makes up the Bel Air ZIP codes. So with that being said, The Regal Cinemas are not at Bel Air, nor is Lowes located in Bel Air South, as per their web site, and Wegmans certainly is not in Bel Air either.

There are so many made-up days of celebration or awareness - National Mayonnaise Day or Annual Broccoli Week - that I don't even pay attention to them anymore. But something caught my eye when the BBB of Greater Maryland sent out a release on Small Business Saturday on Nov. 26 th . If you have an American Express card and use it to spend $25 or more at a small business on that Saturday, the credit card company will credit your account with $25 later. The company's generosity only goes so far. The offer is good for the first 200,000 cards registered.

Why can't political redistricting be done simply by adding or subtracting adjacent zip codes? Surely by using census and post office data, not to mention private industry's marketing research, we pretty much know the precise population of every zip code in the nation. Why can't political redistricting be simply done by adding or subtracting adjacent zip codes? Start from one corner of the state and go north, east, south, or west (depending on what shape the state best lends itself to)
