A Baltimore County lawyer was sentenced to a year in jail yesterday on his third conviction for driving while intoxicated, and for fleeing a Fullerton crash scene where an injured teen-age couple remained trapped in a car that later caught fire.Gerard V. Caldwell Jr., 48, chose not to testify at his trial yesterday in District Court in Towson, but apologized before sentencing. He previously had received probation before judgment on DWI convictions in 1985 and 1992, and at the time of the crash was on probation with an alcohol restriction on his license, said Assistant State's Attorney John P. Cox, arguing for incarceration.

"Clean hits. All 12."That's how Dom Zanti describes the perfect game."I could have had a blockbuster in the first game, but I didn't carry. The third game I was just a little off."Understandable. A 300 game has a tendency to leave you a little limp. Besides, a 187 game on top of a 235 and a 300 still totals up to a powerful 722 series.Zanti, a driver for Watkins Motor Lines, carries a 199 average inthe Capital Men's Thursday Night League at Greenway Bowl Odenton, and it was in that league that he fired his first 300 game on Dec. 20.That's considerably better than his previous 268 high game, however.

Danny Schreiber had a 397 series Sunday, Nov. 4, in the Independent Youth Duckpin Travel League at Greenway Bowl Glen Burnie. Not bad for a young man only 14 years old. But it wasn't quite up to the series that Danny fired the previous Sunday in the same league. That set consisted of a 198 game, a 172 game, and a 180 game. That's a 550 set, and it shattered the world record of 532 for the Junior Division set by David Strauss of Randallstown on Jan. 13.Danny, a ninth-grader at Dundalk High School, was competing at Seidel's Lanes when he threw that first game of 198. There wasn't an open frame in that game.
