MADELYN E. YOX, 67, a seven year resident of Sierra Vista, AZ, peaceful ly returned to the Lord on December 5, 2003. Madelyn was born on January 7, 1936, in Baltimore, MD, to Albert Hiller and Mary Tokarz Hiller. After graduating from The Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore in 1954, she married Michael Joseph Yox in 1955 at St Bernadine's Church in Baltimore, MD. Madelyn briefly worked for Equitable Trust Bank in Randallstown and Owings Mills, MD, rising to the position of assistant Branch Manager.

Convicted thief Patrick John Yox, 19, will spend five years on supervised probation and three years in a supervised intensive drug treatment program, while a suspended 15-year prison term looms over his head.Carroll Circuit Court Judge Luke K. Burns Jr. handed down the sentence yesterday on four counts of breaking and entering and felony theft. Yox pleaded guilty to the charges in May.Judge Burns also ordered Yox to pay $2,193 in restitution for the items he stole and sold.According to a statement of facts presented to the court by the Carroll State's Attorney's office in the case, Yox admitted to committing a series of break-ins and thefts last fall and winter.

A Westminster man, who is being held on burglary charges in lieu of $200,000 bail, has been charged by state police in three more burglaries.Patrick J. Yox, 24, of the 500 block of Bachman Valley Road was taken before a commissioner yesterday in Carroll County District Court, where an additional $150,000 bail was imposed, pending a bail review hearing today.Court records show Yox originally was arrested Aug. 23 and charged in burglaries on Wampler Lane in Westminster on Aug. 17 and on Arrington Road in Marriottsville on Aug. 19.In the latest charges, state police allege Yox broke into a home on Wendy Road in Eldersburg on Aug. 19, where they say a typewriter and three jewelry boxes, which had an estimated value of more than $300, were stolen, police said.

A Westminster man has received a 12-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to four burglaries at Carroll County homes near Upperco, Marriottsville and Eldersburg in August.Patrick John Yox, 24, who gave his mother's Westminster address, told Circuit Court Judge Luke K. Burns Wednesday that he committed the burglaries to finance his heroin addiction.Yox was released from jail in April on a previous burglary conviction for which he received a 2 1/2 -year sentence.Burns handed down two consecutive 20-year terms on the guilty pleas, then suspended all but 12 years.

When she was 6, Elizabeth DuVall said she watched the television show CHiPs about the California highway patrol and dreamed about becoming a police officer. But when she graduated from Westminster High School, her life took a detour. She got married and had two boys, now 6 and 8, who occupied most of her time. Now, DuVall is preparing to enter law enforcement. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office selected her for a new Auxiliary Patrol Program in November. She just completed her training.

A worker was trapped for nearly two hours inside a well north of Westminster yesterday before rescuers pulled him to safety, authorities said. Mark Cornwell, an employee of the Stonemill Plumbing & Heating company of Pleasant Valley, fell about 11:50 a.m. while working in the well in the 200 block of Kowomu Trail near Union Mills. A rope broke and he fell into the water at the bottom of the 65- to 80-foot-deep well, according to Stephen A. Wantz, spokesman for the Pleasant Valley Community Fire Co., and other officials.

After a year of training, Carroll County's Advanced Tactical Rescue team is now on line to respond to serious accidents.The team is a response to problems rescue workers encountered last year at sinkhole and trench incidents that killed two men, said Lenny Yox, one of the three firefighters responsible for creating the new team."

A Sykesville woman was sentenced yesterday to 18 months in jail for a drunken-driving accident last year in Woodbine that killed her boyfriend.Donna F. Cianci, 36, sobbed and stamped her foot, yelling, "Oh God, I'm going to jail," after Carroll Circuit Judge Francis M. Arnold adhered to a plea agreement and imposed a five-year sentence, with all but 18 months suspended.Cianci pleaded guilty in April to homicide by motor vehicle while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated.John B. Yelton, 26, of Taylorsville was killed when Cianci's 1987 Ford Thunderbird went out of control on Woodbine Road north of Buckhorn Road at 2 a.m. May 5 last year.
