wrestling Wrestler of the Year: Ron Vaughters, Old Mill Vaughters compiled a 38-3 record during the regular season and then rolled to four more wins in the state tournament. The sophomore won the 135-pound title with two pins, a default and a 5-3 decision over last season's 130-pound state title holder, Peter Tatanish of Urbana. One of the most aggressive wrestlers in the state, Vaughters is ranked No. 1 in his weight class by the Maryland State Wrestling Association. Coach of the Year Dan Youngblood, Old Mill In only his second year as a head coach, Youngblood, 42, made history at his alma mater, leading his team to both the state dual meet and state tournament titles in 4A-3A competition.

COLLEGE PARK -The River Hill Hawks advanced all 12 of their qualifiers into the second day of competition at the state wrestling tournament last night, giving their coach, Brandon Lauer, a growing sense of possibility. "Every one of our kids have already scored points for us," said Lauer, whose goal is to obtain River Hill's first Class 2A-1A wrestling title. "We've got three in the semifinals. It will be a tall order to push them all into the finals, but that's where a lot of points can be scored.

TAMPA, Fla. - The wait is finally over for Nick Buoniconti, Lynn Swann and Ron Yary. Buoniconti, Swann and Yary joined Marv Levy, Mike Munchak, Jackie Slater and Jack Youngblood as the Class of 2001 inductees to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, it was announced yesterday. Buoniconti, a linebacker who spent half his 14-year career with the Miami Dolphins, had waited 20 years to be chosen by the Hall's 38-member selection committee and joined a group of 14 finalists as a nominee of the Seniors Committee.

The multiracial five-piece band Black Kids, which has an affinity for '80s British rock, is something of a sensation in Europe. There, the band has ascended the charts, packed venues and secured prime TV spots. And in the United States, the critical praise is deafening. Of course, the musicians didn't expect all the buzz. Music bloggers and hipster circles gush over the group's tongue-in-cheek multicultural image and the irreverent neon pop-rock of its debut CD, Partie Traumatic. The album has been out for about a month, and the scruffy band from Jacksonville, Fla., is already tired of hearing about itself.

You remember when playing fantasy sports was a little embarrassing? You'd talk about it with others who played at work or school but you didn't exactly fly a flag saying, "I spend five hours a week obsessing over make-believe games." And you waited maybe a month or two before explaining the whole thing to a new girlfriend. My wife accepted it pretty much in stride, one of many signs that she was a keeper and a queen of tolerating the inexplicable. But 10 years down the line, that all has changed.

ROB YOUNGBLOOD is not a household name. But in May, when the 6-foot-4 South Carolinian assumes his duties as the new executive director of the Greater Annapolis Chamber of Commerce, he should not be difficult to miss.The 38-year-old Mr. Youngblood, who currently is vice president of operations for the Rock Hill (S.C.) Area Chamber of Commerce, will arrive here at a time when many new faces have appeared on the Anne Arundel development scene. Just a few months ago, Susan Zellers, 36, became the new economic development director for Annapolis, one of the highest-profile jobs in the city.
