The New York Giants' secondary has been plagued by injuries that have sapped the unit of strong safety Kenny Phillips and cornerback Prince Amukamara for extended periods. But the secondary has been anchored by cornerback Corey Webster (the team leader in pass breakups with nine) and strong safety Stevie Brown (the team leader in interceptions with seven). However, the Ravens appeared to attack the Giants' defensive backfield by exposing Webster on Sunday. When New York went into single coverage, quarterback Joe Flacco usually went after Webster, completing five passes for 88 yards and a 6-yard touchdown to Torrey Smith, two for 45 yards to Anquan Boldin, one for 36 yards to Dennis Pitta, and one for 7 yards to Jacoby Jones.

Despite an encouraging week of practice and a desire to return, Ravens inside linebacker Ray Lewis won't play Sunday against the New York Giants. Lewis, who hasn't played since Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys because of a torn right triceps, was not activated before Saturday's 4 p.m. deadline, making him ineligible to face the reigning Super Bowl champions. It will be the ninth straight game Lewis has missed. The 37-year-old has practiced the past three weeks, and several team sources indicated Thursday that they were hopeful Lewis would return against the Giants.

For nine years, New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin has had a front-row seat to watch his quarterback, Eli Manning, mix scintillating performances with woeful outings. But despite Manning's flaws and missteps, Coughlin would never have gotten his two Super Bowl rings without the mercurial quarterback. That's why even after New York stumbled badly in last Sunday's 34-0 battering by the Atlanta Falcons, Coughlin's confidence in Manning hasn't wavered. "Eli is our leader," Coughlin said.

Despite injuries that have sapped the Ravens of the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Terrell Suggs and defensive end Pernell McPhee for several games, the defense has put a fair amount of pressure on opposing quarterbacks. The unit's 32 sacks are tied for 16th in the league. Adding to that number this Sunday when the New York Giants visit M&T Bank Stadium won't be easy. Thus far, the Giants offensive line has surrendered NFL lows in both sacks (16) and quarterback hits (42)

Two time zones and a few thousand miles didn't prevent Eli Manning from seeking some advice about the Ravens defense from a trusted source: his older brother. The New York Giants quarterback admitted that he has already talked to Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning about the Ravens, who absorbed a 34-17 defeat at the hands of the Broncos last Sunday. “I talked to him a little bit and watched the game,” Eli Manning said during a conference call with Baltimore media Wednesday.

At 6 feet and 204 pounds, Victor Cruz is the second-shortest wide receiver on the New York Giants and the third-lightest. But Cruz's impact on the Giants offense figures to loom large for the Ravens and cornerback Corey Graham. When New York employs its three-receiver set, Cruz usually lines up in the slot, where he leads the NFL in productivity, according to Pro Football Focus. And if he lines up in the slot this Sunday, it will be up to Graham to match up against him. “Victor Cruz, he's great off the line” of scrimmage, Graham said prior to Wednesday's practice.

A fourth accuser is coming forward to claim he engaged in underage sex with former "Sesame Street" puppeteer Kevin Clash. On Monday, Florida-based attorney Jeff Herman filed his third lawsuit alleging that Clash, now 52, engaged in sex with minors. Herman also has filed suits on behalf of two of the previous three accusers. All three cases allege civil — in other words, noncriminal — violations, and are pending in the Southern District of New York. All three seek unspecified damages.

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot his girlfriend -- the mother of his 3-month old daughter -- multiple times Saturday morning, drove about five miles from their home to the team's practice facility near Arrowhead Stadium and killed himself in front of Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli, Kansas City police say. Belcher, 25, and his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, 22, had been arguing when Belcher shot her just...

Sterling S. "Spence" Keyes, a veteran educator who had served as acting superintendent for Baltimore public schools in the early 1970s and later held positions with the New York State Department of Education, died Nov. 8 of prostate cancer at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Towson. The Odenton resident was 78. "Spence was always at the forefront as a person of color who held positions that heretofore had been held by whites. He was a trailblazer during changing times," said James M. Gaughan, mayor of the village of Altamont, N.Y., who had worked with Dr. Keyes at the New York State Department of Education.
