Baltimore City Health Department will open emergency cooling centers Thursday offering free water and cool air. The National Weather Service is calling for a high of 99 and a heat index up to 106 degrees. There's a 30 percent chance of late afternoon rain and thunderstorms. These centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.: • Northern Community Action Center -- 5225 York Road • Southern Community Action Center -- 606 Cherry Hill Road (inside the shopping center 2nd floor)

Baltimore County Police are reporting that two men entered the Starbucks on York Road in Towson on Saturday, July 14, took an iPad from a customer, then fled. According to police reports, the incident occurred between 3:55 and 4:03 p.m. in the unit block of York Road. Police said the men entered Starbucks after they were seen urinating near the building. One of the men stole the iPad, then they both fled to white Dodge Caravan that had been parked near the Marriott, according to police.

A southbound lane along part of York Road in Cockeysville is closed after a water main break affected traffic in Cockeysville for the second time this week. The break occurred in the early morning hours Saturday, shutting down the road between Beaver Run Lane and Railroad Avenue. Baltimore County Police say two men were arrested and charged in a robbery that occurred Sunday, June 24, at the Royal Farms store on Falls Road. The incident occurred in the 6000 block on Falls Road, at 5:31 a.m. June 24. According to the police report, Thomas James Busard, 19, of the 3300 block of Paine Street, and Michael Robert Blevins, 19, of the 1300 block of West 42nd Street, were arrested and charged with robbery, armed robbery, and assault after fleeing Royal Farms robbery.

Baltimore police are seeking three men who robbed a North Baltimore McDonald's at gunpoint on Saturday night. Authorities said the hold-up occurred about 8:50 p.m. at the fast-food restaurant in the 5100 block of York Road, five blocks north of Cold Spring Lane on the border of Radnor-Winston and Winston-Govans. A bystander flagged down a city police officer and told them that the robbery had just occurred. Police said that a man wearing a black mask and holding as silver or gray semi-automatic handgun jumped over the counter and said, "You know what this is, open the registers.

Mary Lou and the Untouchables will be the musical group Friday, June 8, 6 to 9 p.m., when the Towson's Feet on the Street Friday night block parties continue on Allegheny Avenue, between Washington Avenue and York Road. A man was fatally shot a few blocks from the campus of Loyola University Maryland in Northern Baltimore on Thursday evening, police said. Police responded to the 4600 block of York Road, in the Guilford neighborhood, shortly after 6:30 p.m. The location is also close to the Guilford Elementary/Middle School. The State Highway Administration has begun a $1 million resurfacing project along a mile stretch of York Road between Towsontown Boulevard and Stevenson Lane in Towson, which officials said is designed to improve safety and traffic flow. Crews are upgrading sections of curb, gutter, sidewalk and ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act standards. The project also includes cleaning and repairing inlets and drainage pipes; and installing underground and overhead traffic detectors at intersections where needed.
