Baltimore's Babe Ruth Museum is planning to join with the Yogi Berra Museum in Montclair, N.J., on an exhibit highlighting baseball in Japan and the United States. Officials announced the exhibit, which they hope will debut in the fall of 2002 and tour cities in both countries, yesterday at the Babe Ruth Museum near Camden Yards. Berra, the Hall of Fame catcher for the New York Yankees who starred in the 1950s and 1960s, attended the event. He had toured Japan twice with his Yankees teammates in the 1950s.

After 120 years of continuous operation, Fields of Pikesville is closing. “It's true,” said Fields co-owner and general manager Jeffrey Levin, whose pharmacist father Norman bought the store from the Fields family in 1946. Levin said that the store and its lunch counter, a longtime gathering spot for Pikesville residents, will close around Labor Day, or as soon as inventory is sold off. Still know as Fields Pharmacy by the locals, the pharmacy stopped operating in 1998, according to Levin.

Stung by the defection of the Maine Mariners last summer, officials in Portland gave a green light yesterday for continued negotiations to lure either the Baltimore Skipjacks or another, unidentified American Hockey League franchise.Steve Rosenblatt, general manager of the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, said the board of trustees for the arena was updated on those negotiations by the four-member sports committee and the consensus of the trustees was to "bring back the best lease we can."
