A 17-year-old Taneytown-area youth accused of raping four teen-age girls is bedridden from an automobile accident last month that caused severe brain injury, and his parents say he no longer needs to wear a court-ordered home-monitoring bracelet, according to papers filed in Carroll County Circuit Court. Nathaniel J. Yinger of the 2800 block of Basehores Mill Road is charged with multiple counts of rape, sodomy, sexual assault and assault. A defense motion to have Yinger tried as a juvenile was pending when he was injured about 11 a.m. March 8 after he lost control of a 1997 Subaru Impreza and hit a fence and mailboxes before overturning, according to Maryland State Police at Westminster.

LEWISBERRY, Pa. - On a gray day with sleet falling over the frozen fields of his farm in central Pennsylvania, Barry Yinger was telling the story of his search for a hardy camellia 20 years ago on an island off the coast of Korea. This veteran plant explorer, fluent in Japanese and Chinese, is transforming American gardens with hundreds of the exotic plants he finds in Asia. But pursuing a hardy camellia seemed like a quest for the Holy Grail. "It's very cold and bleak there, with these awful winds that come down from Mongolia," said Yinger, 52, who has led some 60 plant expeditions to Asia.
