The suspect -- a 6-foot tall man wearing a flannel shirt -- was seen in the open garage attempting to steal the dirt bike, police said.

The Atholton High School Raiders will take part in the United States Scholastic Band Association's Yamaha Cup at M&T Bank Stadium at 7 p.m. tomorrow. It is the band's fourth competition under the Youth Education in the Arts program this season. It has played in Herndon, Va. (at the Northern Virginia Regional Championship), Hershey, Pa., and in Westminster, taking first place each time in its category. WASHINGTON -- In a major ruling on recreational boating, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously yesterday that families of people who are killed in on-water accidents may seek wide-ranging money damages in state courts.Ruling in a case involving a 12-year-old girl killed in a personal-ski accident in Puerto Rico, the court wiped out the possibility that fatal recreational-boating accidents could be pursued only under federal law, limited to reimbursement for funeral expenses.The justices rejected a claim by Yamaha Motor Corp.

A 30-year-old Baltimore man died yesterday after losing control of his motorcycle and striking a wooden utility pole, city police said.Joseph Earnest Lewis Jr. of the 700 block of Mount Holly Street was traveling east about 8 p.m. in the 3500 block of West Caton Avenue when he lost control of his 1982 Yamaha motorcycle and struck a light pole, police said. He was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:38 p.m.

A Pennsylvania motorcyclist apparently suffered a heart attack Wednesday evening before an accident on Littlestown Pike north of Westminster, state police said.Lenny Duane Doan, 37, of Abbottstown in York County was taken to Carroll County General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead soon after the accident, which occurred at 5: 30 p.m., police said.According to a police report, the motorcyclist was traveling north near Bachmans Valley Road when he put his head down on the handlebars of his Yamaha Special 400 and began to lose control of the motorcycle.
