Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church will exhibit drawings and paintings in the exhibit Gifts of Good Pleasure in its gallery through May 8, 611 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. in Severna Park. The artists, Nancy Saarlas and Sharon West, have included traditional watercolor studies along with pen-and-ink drawings in this exhibit. Saarlas holds multiple degrees in fine arts from the University of Illinois. She is resuming her fine arts career after devoting the past 25 years to the church. West, who is employed by First Horizon Home Loans as a real estate manager for the Northeast and New England regions, lives in Severna Park.

D-Day neared last week at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, and people were happy.One man leaned from a ladder to dust the cross in the church's new sanctuary, in preparation for Dedication Day this morning. Other church members moved chairs from the old sanctuary into the new 575-seat sanctuary. They moved the grand piano over. They cleaned.After months of crowding into makeshift rooms, the 2,000-member congregation can finally stretch and enjoy its view."It's wonderful!" rejoiced Elsie Wilson, church secretary for 25 years.

But while other horses fell further behind the streaking son of Silver Deputy, Gattopardo, the Laurel Park-based 3-year-old kept digging, climbing from fourth to second, five lengths back. "I couldn't sleep last night, I was so excited about this race," said Gattopardo's owner Mike Ueltzen.
