It didn't take long last night for No. 5 Woodlawn to prove its supremacy in Baltimore County basketball.Fifteen seconds, to be exact.That's how long it took for the Warriors to win the opening tip, Boys basketballdrive through the paint and get four straight shots at the basket, towering over an outsized Catonsville team for rebound after rebound.Woodlawn proved to be too much for the 14th-ranked Comets, scoring the game's first seven points and rolling to an 82-70 win before a standing-room crowd at Catonsville High.

There's something about Randallstown that brings out the best in Woodlawn's Troy Sheppard. A year ago, he scored the winning touchdown in the Warriors' victory.And last night, he picked up where he left off.Sheppard scored one touchdown running and another receiving to lead No. 11 Woodlawn to a 13-7 win over the Rams in a Baltimore County 4A-3A League game at Catonsville Community College."He likes these games," Woodlawn coach George Goudy said of Sheppard, who led the team with 110 yards rushing and 27 yards receiving.

Baltimore County police are investigating the stabbing death of a 23-year-old city man Wednesday night in Woodlawn. Police responded to a report of a fight at about 11:30 p.m. to the 2600 block of Purnell Drive, near Gwynns Falls Boulevard. They found a vehicle with several people in and around it, police said, and several homes away, they found Kevin Eric Regusters in a front yard suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim, who lived in the 5300 block of Kenilworth Ave. in the Govans area, was taken to Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A 51-year-old woman was found dead in her Woodlawn apartment yesterday afternoon, and police were labeling the discovery "suspicious" last night.The body of Margaret May Kobic, who lived alone at the Security Park apartments in the 7400 block of Lesada Drive, was found by her son about 12:20 p.m., police said.The authorities would not divulge any details, except to say there was "trauma to the upper body."Investigators were awaiting an autopsy report from the state medical examiner's office.

Woodlawn forward Guy Butler showed why he earned Most Valuable Player honors in the Wes Unseld Holiday Tournament during the first 10 minutes of yesterday's championship game against No. 13 Broadneck at Catonsville Community College.The Warriors' 6-foot-7 enforcer scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in that span, powering No. 6 Woodlawn to a 22-16 lead.From there, though, it was Woodlawn's little men who gave the Bruins their biggest headaches.Six-foot Keion Carpenter and 5-foot-10 Steve Jackson combined for 25 points and 11 steals to lead the Warriors to a 52-46 win, giving them their second straight tournament crown.

The last time Dunbar faced a top-notch Baltimore County team, it routed Milford Mill in the state 1A regional final last season. The Poets were spurred on in that game by comments by some Milford Mill players in an newspaper article preceding the game.Last night, No. 5 Woodlawn gained a rare opportunity to face Dunbar in the Fuel Fund Classic at the Baltimore Arena. And while the Warriors didn't spend the time preceding the matchup shooting off at the mouth, their shooting proved to have the damaging effect.

Services for Maxine Feld, a mathematics teacher at Woodlawn Senior High School, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Loring Byers funeral establishment, 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown.Mrs. Feld, who was 58 and lived on Washington Avenue in the Milford Mill area, died of heart disease and diabetes Wednesday at Sinai Hospital.A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., who came to Baltimore as a young woman, she taught at the Baltimore County high school for nearly 20 years. The former Maxine Bach was a graduate of the Montclair State Teachers College in New Jersey and did graduate work at Towson State University.

When a suspected drug dealer threatened Patricia Williams for testifying against him in court, a Baltimore County police officer was assigned for a month to protect her at her job.Williams said that when she was the head housekeeper at a nearby motel, she would report the presence of drugs that she discovered while cleaning guests' rooms. She was threatened by one man who was arrested on the basis of her reports."When I needed the cops, those cops were there," Williams says, "no ifs, ands or buts."

No, it's not coach Meredith Smith's Bulldogs, even though they're 14-1.Is it coach Terry Leverette's No. 2 Southwestern team, which beat Southern?Or No. 3 Dunbar, coached by Paul Smith? Or Charlie Moore's No. 4 Lake Clifton team?No, no and no. It's none of those.It's Woodlawn High, from Baltimore County. The Warriors have won 38 straight regular-season games and are 15-0 this season.
