Services for Clarence W. Winterstein, a Queen Anne's County dairy farmer, will be held at noon tomorrow at the Fellows Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St., Millington.Mr. Winterstein died of pneumonia Wednesday in Kent General Hospital in Dover, Del. He was 77.At 15, Mr. Winterstein ended his formal schooling to work on his family's vegetable farm in Fullerton. In 1933, he married Ruth Burton of Glenarm and settled in Sudlersville.Because he enjoyed the outdoors, Mr. Winterstein continued to help his son, Bill, work the dairy andgrain farm after retiring in 1984.

Also survived by sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at the Lassahn Funeral Home Inc., 7401 Belair Road, On Tuesday at 11am. Interment Gardens of Faith Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 2-5 and 7-9pm.

The owner of Carroll Fitness Center in Finksburg said Friday he willtake over management of Leisure Health Spa, which filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code last October.DougEmel, owner of the Finksburg center since May 1990, said he plans tosend a three- to five-member management team to the spa by Wednesday.Emel will not honor current Leisure memberships, but said he willwaive a $100 initiation fee for current members who join by Feb. 15.The monthly fee will be $20, said Emel, owner of Omni Management Co.The spa, at Route 27 and Goldenrod Terrace, will continue to operate under the Leisure name.

TOWSON - Westminster's Charlie Winterstein and Manchester's Mike Bixler recently set new Maryland state records in the bench press at the Maryland Drug Free Bench Press Championships at the Towson YMCA.Winterstein, competing in the 50-59 age group, shattered the existing record by 60 pounds with a lift of 300 pounds.

Portrayed by the defense as a victim of sexual and physical abuse, by the prosecution as a "torturer," and by the judge as a "monster," Idamae Winterstein was sentenced to 30 years in prison today for the murder of her 2 1/2 -year-old son.Winterstein, 30, pleaded guilty in Baltimore Circuit Court March 19 to the second-degree murder of David Michael Winterstein.Judge Elsbeth Levy Bothe, imposing the maximum 30-year term, called the killing "one of the most dastardly cases I've ever heard."

Expert testimony that a mother who murdered her 2 1/2 -year-old son was herself abused as a child failed yesterday to move a Baltimore Circuit Court judge, who handed Idamae Winterstein the maximum 30-year prison sentence.Winterstein, 30, pleaded guilty March 20 to second-degree murder in the death of David Michael Winterstein at their home in the 200 block of South Conkling Street last May 31.At the time of the plea, Judge Elsbeth L. Bothe rejected Winterstein's tearful claim that she hadn't done anything to David, even though she was pleading guilty.

The owners of Leisure Health Spa have filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, saying they have 10 times as many liabilities as assets, court records show.Company assets total $50,000, liabilities $500,000, records filed Oct. 18 at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Baltimore show.The largest debtor is the former owner of the spa, Charles H. Winterstein of Westminster.Winterstein, owner of Westminster Health Club Inc., is owed $410,000, the documents show.Spa owners soughtcourt protection under Chapter 11 for a reorganization to put company finances in order.

When Franklin Carl Redden moved into Idamae Winterstein's home, her three children hailed him as their "new daddy," the man who would take them to Disney World.Thirty days after Redden's arrival, Winterstein's two surviving children knew him as the man who helped kill their baby brother.Yesterday, Redden was sentenced in Baltimore Circuit Court to 30 years in prison for the second-degree murder of 2-year-old David Winterstein, whose bruised and beaten body was found a year ago today. In handing down the sentence, Judge John Carroll Byrnes dismissed all calls for leniency or compassion toward Redden.
