Talk about your winning streaks. The Brewer's Art, now in its 17th season, has had a remarkably impressive run in its Charles Street townhouse. It has managed to mature and grow in popularity while holding true to its original vision and keeping the loyalty of its core audience. Its Belgian-style beers, brewed on the premises, are deservedly admired far and wide. Service, from behind the bars and at the tables, is direct and friendly. The dining rooms and lounge spaces are in fine, ready-for-company condition.

Franklin & Marshall built a 14-point third-quarter lead and held off a late rally to pull off a 14-12 upset over visiting Johns Hopkins on Saturday. The win, Franklin & Marshall's first against Johns Hopkins since 2007, ends the Blue Jays' 22-game regular-season winning streak and their 20-game Centennial Conference winning streak. The Blue Jays (8-1, 7-1) trailed 14-6 late in the fourth quarter before Braden Anderson directed a 14-play, 84-yard drive that Jonathan Rigaud capped with a 7-yard touchdown run with 27 seconds remaining.

Hockey Caps' Oates to help coach Hershey affiliate The Washington Capitals announced Sunday that Adam Oates would serve as co-coach of the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears, along with head coach Mark French , during the NHL lockout. It's a move that will allow Oates, a first-time NHL head coach, time behind a bench while familiarizing himself with players throughout the organization. Oates and French, along with Hershey assistant coach Troy Mann , will be behind the bench during games, but the suddenly expanded staff still has to work out most of the logistics.

Johns Hopkins wide receiver Scott Cremens (Westminster) entered Saturday's game against visiting Juniata (1-4, 0-4 Centennial Conference) with nine receptions this season. He matched that total against the Eagles with a career-high 178 receiving yards and three touchdowns to lead the No. 15 Blue Jays (5-0, 4-0) to a 40-20 victory. The win improves Hopkins' regular-season winning streak to 19 games and its Centennial Conference winning streak to 17 games. The Blue Jays trailed 3-0 early in the second quarter when Cremens and quarterback Robbie Matey connected on back-to-back drives for a 13-3 lead.

BOSTON - If you're trying to make sense of the Orioles' otherworldly string of 16 straight extra-inning victories, don't even bother. "You don't question the things you don't understand," manager Buck Showalter said moments after the Orioles shook off a late-inning comeback by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon and scored three runs in the 12th for a 9-6 victory at Fenway Park. "You just sit back and watch it happen. " If you want to put it into some kind of perspective, consider the fact that a game that goes into extra innings is, by its very nature as a tied game in regulation, a pretty even proposition.

It took a little longer than usual, but No. 1 Gilman is back on the winning track. The Greyhounds posted a 13-6 victory over New Jersey's Don Bosco Prep at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis on Saturday night, ending the Ironmen's 46-game winning streak. Gilman lost its first two games to two nationally ranked teams, Archbishop Moeller of Ohio, and Good Counsel. By winning, Gilman avoided its worst start in 16 years under coach Biff Poggi. "Our seniors played huge today," Biff Poggi said.

Old Mill's football players came into their home opener Friday night with a chip on their collective shoulder. They wanted to prove it's time to talk about current Patriots such as Marcus Hicks, Jalen Jones and Carl Chance instead of dwelling on the talent they lost from last year's Class 4A state championship team. Against Anne Arundel County foe Broadneck, the host Patriots proved they could pick up right where the state title team left off despite graduating 16 starters, including running back Rob Chesson and his state-record 49 touchdowns.

Thursday at Camden Yards was supposed to be about third baseman Manny Machado, the Orioles' top hitting prospect, who was making his big league debut directly out of Double-A. But to paraphrase one of Orioles manager Buck Showalter's favorite sayings, the Kansas City Royals didn't cooperate. Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen turned in the worst start of his brief big league career in an 8-2 bashing by the Royals that ended the Orioles' five-game winning streak before an announced 21,226.

CLEVELAND - Orioles manager Buck Showalter, a master of detail, watches baseball games in pieces, individual snapshots, and not in one stream. So, to him, a play that might not have been made in the third or a blown call in the sixth is equally important as a late-inning gaffe that everyone notices. In fact, one of Showalter's biggest pet peeves is dwelling on one moment in a baseball game that is filled with various wrinkles and nuances. Case in point: The Orioles' 3-1 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Monday that snapped their five-game winning streak and prohibited them from their first four-game sweep in Cleveland since 1971.

ATLANTA -   Orioles left-hander Brian Matusz's outing on Friday night came down to one batter - and specifically one pitch - against a rookie shortstop playing in just his 12th game in the major leagues. Matusz spent most of the night dodging disasters against the Braves at Turner Field, making key pitches to get critical outs. With two outs in the sixth, he was one out away from getting a quality start - and inched closer to his fifth win in his last seven decisions. But that's when Matusz hung a two-seamer split - one that was supposed to be low and away - over the plate to 22-year old Andrelton Simmons, and the Braves shortstop of the future sent Matusz's mistake into the left-field stands for a two-run homer.
