Broken Wings is a skillful Israeli family drama about a mother and four children at the start of a new school year, trying to repair themselves nine months after the death of the husband and father who was and still is at their household's center. The movie has a primal mother-daughter hook that never loses its point. Orli Zilberschatz-Banai is a midwife too depressed and overworked to mind her own offspring and Maya Maron is the 17-year-old daughter and would-be rock singer who for most of a year has brought up the youngest children (Daniel and Eliana Magon)

"I was just leaving them over the plate. I just told myself in the second to settle down."

Good teams find ways to win against a lesser opponent even when they may not be on top of their game. So the Blast, which came into Friday's game against last-place Wichita undefeated and averaging more than 15-plus points per game, had that task when its usually precise offense was mostly absent. Two goals a minute apart at the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth proved the answer as the Blast shook the pesky, defensive-minded Wings, 10-6, in front of an announced 6,624 at 1st Mariner Arena . The Blast (8-0)

It was the same two teams playing in a different location, but for the Baltimore Thunder, the result was painfully familiar.Just five days after losing to the Wings in Philadelphia's most lopsided victory in franchise history, the Thunder lost to its Interstate 95 rivals, 20-17, last night before 9,707 at the Baltimore Arena."

Simply put, the difference came down to confidence. The Skipjacks came into last night's game winless in their last six. Adirondack had lost seven of 10, including the first two of a four-game trip. Both teams were preseason shoo-ins for playoff berths but are now struggling and fighting for their lives in the AHL Southern Division race."We've had our backs to the wall for a couple of weeks, hovering around fourth place," Red Wings coach Barry Melrose said. "They've been losing and we've been losing, too. I said to my guys before the game, 'Let's see how they play under pressure, knowing they might miss the playoffs.
