The Harford County Sheriff's Office has arrested an 18-year-old man for the shooting death of a 16-year-old as he sat in a car outside his Edgewood home, police said Sunday. Michael S. Jones Jr., of the 1300 block of Rainbow Way, in Edgewood, was charged Sunday with first-degree murder, assault and the use of a handgun in a violent crime, in connection with the Saturday night killing of Shakir D. Wingate, 16, of Edgewood. Jones is being held at the Harford County Detention Center without bail.

ROBERT EDWARD LEE WINGATE, son of Robert E. Lee Wingate and Eva Siske Heidman died March 28, 2006. A graduate of Brooklyn Park High School, Class of of '65. Mr. Wingate received special presidential commendation as most outstanding Amateur Chemist while still in his teens. Following enlistment in the United States Army, Mr. Wingate a Vietnam Veteran was a member of several Veteran's organizations most notably American Legion Post 195 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 13. Graduating Cum Laude from Florida International University with BAs in both Philosophy and Psychology Mr. Wingate taught in Dade County Florida and Anne Arundel County Maryland prior to 25 years of service with the Federal Government.

Loving and beloved husband of Carolyn Harrington Wingate; devoted and beloved father of Michael Wingate of Lutherville, MD, John Wingate of Ventura, CA, and Meredith Wingate of San Francisco, CA and step-father of Carey Talucci, Kathleen Talucci, Mark Talucci, and Eileen Talucci Alban of Baltimore; loving grandfather of 12 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; devoted brother of Emme Hawn of Erie, PA. On Saturday, October 23, 2004, FRENCH WINGATE CORNETT, SR., age 86, of Independence, VA. Born May 24, 1918 at Independence, VA to the late Heath and Eliza Wingate Cornett. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Irene Showers Cornett, son David Cornett, brother Olen Cornett, half-brother Claude Cornett, three half-sisters Jeanetta Jones, Lula Dewitt and Mae Bishop. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Campaign. He was also a retired employee of Bethlehem Steel, where he worked for many years.

Margaret Mae Wingate, a retired secretary and former longtime South Baltimore resident, died of cardiac arrest Wednesday at Carroll County General Hospital. She was 68. A Westminster resident since 1992, she had lived at Locust House, a senior citizen facility in Westminster, since 1999. Born and raised in Southwest Baltimore, she graduated from Western High School in 1953. She was a secretary for Baltimore financial institutions. then began working at Don-Lee Electrical Co. in South Baltimore in 1990.

Former San Antonio Spurs guard-forward David Wingate, who has been accused of raping two women, has been named in a lawsuit involving a car accident that injured a woman and her child.Wingate, who helped lead Georgetown to the National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball championship in 1984 and played basketball at Baltimore's Dunbar High School, was named Tuesday in a $23 million lawsuit that claimed he negligently lent his car to a nephew, who was driving a car that hit a woman and her 4-year-old child.

girls basketball Player of the Year Nyree Williams, Howard The 6-foot-1 senior forward brought a powerful inside game to the Lions, but she was also a strong defensive presence. With her quickness and long arms, she gave even the slipperiest small guards trouble on the defensive end. On offense, Williams excelled in the paint and was particularly difficult to stop on the offensive rebounds. She averaged 17.6 points, 14.3 rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Williams, who is headed to North Carolina, led the Lions to the best record in school history, 20-5, and a second-place finish in the Howard County league.

Girls Basketball Howard vs. Reservoir: Where:: Howard High When:: Wednesday Time: : 5:30 p.m. Outlook:: Howard (11-2) upset Reservoir (10-3) in their last meeting, 71-60, as the Lions' Brandi Wingate (33 points, 12 rebounds) and Nyree Williams (25 points, 21 rebounds) came up big. In this rematch, the Gators, led by guard Briana Bradford, are going to have to find a way to stop Howard's seniors. The two teams are in a dogfight with Mount Hebron, the defending state champion, for second and third places behind No. 6 River Hill.

Howard senior Brandie Wingate, the daughter of David Wingate, who played at Dunbar, Georgetown and in the NBA, isn't afraid to tell her teammates what she thinks before and after games. During games, the 6-1 point guard/forward is busy averaging 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and three assists. The Lions are off to their best start in years, and Wingate says that's because she and her teammates have played together for four years or more. What is your role with the Lions? I'm a leader.

With four 6-footers on the floor, last night's girls basketball game between No. 6 River Hill and No. 11 Howard figured to be a battle on the inside, but the Hawks' guards stole the show. Shantrel Oliver and Vanessa Collier combined for 38 points to lead host River Hill to a 67-41 victory in a Howard County league game. The Hawks (6-0 overall, 5-0 league) are the only unbeaten team remaining in the county. Oliver and Collier said there were two main keys to the victory - defense and taking it to the Lions' 6-footers: Nyree Williams and Brandi Wingate.
