In the eyes of at least two families, the closure of Towson Catholic High School is a broken promise. The mothers of 16-year-old students Elisa Marie Windsor and Hannah Messina have filed a lawsuit and a request for a temporary restraining order that, if granted, would prevent the school's closing for the coming academic year and the dismissal of any of its faculty and staff. In the suit, filed Tuesday in Baltimore County Circuit Court, the girls' mothers - Lois Windsor, president of the school's parents association, and Judy Messina, the group's vice president - claim that closing the school would deprive the students of the education they had been promised.

Together, they sashayed down the catwalk in the empty cafeteria Thursday evening. "You've got to work this runway, girl," Codia Harris, 13, said to Tierra Perry, 12. A half-hour later, they and their peers at Windsor Mill Middle School were doing the walk in formal gowns and business attire, with pop songs such as Beyonce's "Diva" and a shouting, adoring audience as their soundtrack. They did so under the gaze of a pro: McKey Sullivan, winner of the 11th cycle of America's Next Top Model, served as the event's mistress of ceremonies, guiding the hundreds in attendance from one fashion scene to another.

If the 465-foot Lehigh Heidelberg Cement tower were in downtown Baltimore, it would be the fifth-tallest high- rise, an unassuming structure in a busy skyline. But the structure dominates Union Bridge, a pastoral Carroll County town of just over a thousand people that's known for its quaint antique stores. "At night, they light the tower up like Cape Canaveral," said Union Bridge Mayor Bret Grossnickle. "Opinions vary on whether it's an eyesore. It's been around so long that people are used to it."

Sgt. Steve Olson only had to follow the footprints. With snow falling and few people out Tuesday night, whoever shot 23-year-old Jasmine Harris in the doorway of her family's West Baltimore home had left a clear trail. It twisted from the home, through an alley behind several houses, and up onto a porch on Gwynns Falls Parkway. It led to an area where a vehicle appeared to have pulled up, and then, right back to the crime scene in the 3000 block of Windsor Ave. There, standing on the corner, at the end of the footprints, was Kenneth R. Warren Jr. He was watching police response to the shooting.
