A 23-year-old Toyota Camry driver who wasn't wearing a seat belt was killed early Sunday morning in Howard County after the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, police announced. Kelly Jordan Duffy, of the 1900 block of Greengage Road in Windsor Mill, was the car's only occupant, police said. The accident occurred about 3:17 a.m. on Maryland Route 32 near Fox Chase Road, according to Howard County police. "Preliminary investigation reveals failure to drive within a single lane as the primary cause of the collision," police said Sunday in a statement.

A city water main break in the 5400 block of West Forest Park Avenue closed roads Wednesday and cut off supply to several homes and a day-care center in the Windsor Mills neighborhood. The 20-inch main, which broke during the early morning hours, has also caused some water outages at Kernan Hospital, although there has been no impact to patient safety, officials said. "The hospital is functioning normally," said Kurt Kocher, spokesman for the Baltimore City Department of Public Works.

Richard Ruff "Dick" Stanfield, founder and president of Edrich Lumber Inc. who had been active in community affairs, died Feb. 15 of heart failure at Northwest Hospital Center. The longtime Windsor Mill resident was 77. The son of farmers, Mr. Stanfield was born in Baltimore and raised on the family dairy farm at McDonogh Road and Church Lane in Randallstown. After graduating from Milford Mill High School in 1952, Mr. Stanfield earned a bachelor's degree in 1956 from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Joshua Parker, a 28-year-old Windsor Mill Middle School teacher in Baltimore County, was named the Maryland Teacher of the Year on Friday night, beating out five other finalists from across the state. The announcement was a surprise, kept secret to everyone but a few state education staffers until it was announced to a large crowd at Martin's West about 9:30 p.m. The son of a Prince George's County teacher who encouraged him to enter the profession, Parker is language arts department chairman at Windsor Mill, a school with a high number of disadvantaged students.

A Baltimore County basketball coach was charged over the weekend with sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy, police said Monday, but the coach's employer defended the man. Police have charged Tyrone Terry Jordan, 55, of the 3400-block of Oakfield Ave. in Gwynn Oak, with sexual abuse of a minor, a felony, and fourth-degree sex offense, a misdemeanor. A 14-year-old boy told police that Jordan, his basketball coach, had touched him inappropriately on Aug. 31 while he was at the Hoops Summer Camp, located in the 3700 block of Twin Lakes Court in Windsor Mill, at the Twin Lakes Racquet Club, according to Baltimore County police.
