Former Naval Academy coach, college football standout and NFL player Jack Cloud died Saturday morning at the age of 85. Cloud taught physical education and coached football for 32 years at the Naval Academy. During his years in Annapolis, Cloud served as the head lightweight (now called sprint) football coach where he had an 83-13-3 record and eight league championships. Before teaching and coaching, Cloud, a native of Britton, Okla., attended Maury High School in Norfolk, Va. After graduating high school, Cloud served three years as an Air Force gunner before going to William & Mary to play football.

William & Mary football coach Jimmye Laycock is expected to meet with Maryland athletic director Andy Geiger today about Maryland's vacant head coaching job, a William & Mary spokeswoman said.William & Mary sports information director Jean Elliott said last night that she had spoken with athletic director John Randolph yesterday, and he confirmed that Geiger had expressed interest in Laycock."I don't know when the contact was made, but John Randolph said he believed Laycock was being interviewed by Geiger today [Wednesday]

William Eaton Perryclear Sr., former worm farm owner and museum curator, died of esophageal cancer Monday at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The Annapolis resident was 66. Mr. Perryclear was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Govans and Roland Park. He was a 1958 graduate of City College and earned a bachelor's degree in English literature in 1962 from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. Mr. Perryclear was an insurance agent from 1962 until 1975, when he moved to Delta, Pa., and established William & Mary Enterprises, a worm and organic soil farm.

The Loyola College men's soccer team inched closer to its first NCAA tournament appearance in six years fittingly yesterday -- by beating the team that has been its nemesis during that same stretch.Marc Harrison scored on a penalty kick with 13:58 left in the second half to lift the Greyhounds to a 1-0 victory over William & Mary before 220 soaked spectators at Curley Field. The victory, the eighth straight and the 14th in the past 15 games for the 22nd-ranked Greyhounds, improved their record to 16-2 and strengthened their chances for their first NCAA tournament berth since 1987.

Karen McCammon had six saves for Salisbury State.Cross country* Mount St. Mary's: Sophomore Rebecca Wassner finished first and led the Mount St. Mary's women to second place in a quad meet at 20th-ranked William & Mary.

Teresa C. Turner-Jones, daughter of Felicia C. Turner of Frederick, MD, and the late Carl Turner, married Lyle F. Jones, son of Mary E. Jones of Columbia, MD, and the late Leonard Jones, Sr., on November 3, 2007, at First Missionary Baptist Church, Frederick, MD. The bride is a graduate of St. Mary's College and William & Mary Law School. She is a federal prosecutor in Washington, DC. The groom is a graduate of Bradley University and University of Maryland School of Law. He is a trial attorney in Baltimore.
