Wilkie of Jacksonville, FL, son, Roy Warren Wilkie, Sr., of Middleburg, FL, daughter, Susan Lee Lowell of Fort White, FL, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one sister and one niece. Arrangements by HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERMEAD FUNERAL HOME, Orange Park, FL.

Robert Lewis Fowler, a retired Westinghouse electrical engineer, died of cancer Sunday at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, N.C. The former Ellicott City resident was 68. Born in Whittier, N.C., and raised in Bryson City, N.C., he earned an electrical engineering degree from North Carolina State University. Mr. Fowler met his future wife at her summer job at a drugstore lunch counter in Sanford. "One day at lunch, he came to the fountain area for a ham sandwich, and their eyes locked through the pie case," according to a family history.

Services for Nelda Jo Adamson Wilkinson will take place at the Singleton Funeral Home Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 27.Mrs. Wilkinson, 48,died Jan. 23 at her home.Born in Salina, Kansas, she graduated from Kansas State University in 1965.Mrs. Wilkinson worked for the Home Interior and Gifts Co. as a demonstrator and saleswoman. She was also a member of the First Christian Church of Glen Burnie and the Ladies Koinia.Her other interests included flowers, gardening and decorating, as both a career and a hobby.

John Robert Wilkie Jr., 79, agent, racetrack worker John Robert Wilkie Jr., a retired thoroughbred horse racing jockeys' agent and racetrack worker, died Friday of cancer at his Laurel home. He was 79. He started as an agent in 1949 and throughout his career represented many winning jockeys, among them Bill Hartack, Carlos Barrera, Chuck Baltazar, Nick Shuk, C.H. Marquez, George Cusimano and Walter Blum. In 1984, he was elected president of the Jockey Agents' Benevolent Association, the national organization that books engagements for riders.

Essie Wilkie places the cherry tomato on the scale: too heavy. She picks up a knife and carefully trims a sliver from the offending orb. She weighs it again, verifies that the surgery has been successful, and drops the tinier tomato into a container of salad -- which is now exactly 68 grams. Wilkie is not being obsessive about her diet. She is, however, being obsessive about someone else's. She works in the Johns Hopkins University ProHealth kitchen, which makes food for scientific research into the links between diet and human health.
