The Ravens and six-year running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery have decided to part ways, just days after the team finished the 2013 season with the lowest rushing output in franchise history. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh made the announcement on Friday, saying in a statement that Montgomery “decided to pursue other coaching and life opportunities. “I want to thank him for everything he did for our organization,” Harbaugh said. “Wilbert has been a tremendous coach for the Ravens, and he has played an integral role in the success we've experienced over the past several seasons.

NEW ORLEANS - Ravens coach John Harbaugh rattled off plenty of positives about his running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery on Wednesday morning. Then Harbaugh stopped himself to add one more. "… At one time, he was the fastest human being in the world, did you know that? He was, a long time ago. " Montgomery acknowledges he was a pretty fast guy growing up in Greenville, Miss., in the early 1970s. During his high school days, Montgomery and his brother, Cleotha, clocked 9.3 seconds in the 100-yard dash on cinder rocks instead of the smooth, cushioned track surfaces of today.

Ray Rice set several season lows in the Ravens' 12-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars Monday night, rushing just eight times for 28 yards and amassing just 63 total yards from scrimmage. Coach John Harbaugh was asked during his weekly briefing about an inference during the ESPN telecast of the game that Rice and running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery had become involved in some sort of exchange and that Rice had been benched. Not true, according to Harbaugh. “I don't know of anything with Wilbert, but absolutely not - he wasn't benched,” Harbaugh said.

Capt. John Worthington hasn't had the most restful of postmortem experiences. The rich tobacco planter and early Colonial politician was buried in 1701 just north of Annapolis across the Severn River. He was nearly forgotten for 200 years while his grave gathered moss under brambles. Then, in the 1920s, his remains were placed in a new coffin. Now, his descendants are questioning a plan that would, they say, disturb his most recent resting place - at a historic church in downtown Annapolis.
