On Tuesday, January 6, 2004, MARGUERITE R. DONOVAN, age 62, of Avondale, PA, formerly of West Grove, PA, passed away at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, PA. She was the wife of Charles J. Donovan, Sr. with whom she shared 43 years of marriage. Born in Darby, PA, she was the daughter of Marguerite Hines Welsh and the late Robert Welsh. A devoted wife and mother, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching all sports. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by four sons, Charles J. Donovan, Jr. and his wife Lisa of West Grove, PA, Daniel J. Donovan and his wife Diane of Newark, DE, Donald Donovan and his wife Sonja of Lincoln University, PA, Dennis Donovan of Pasadena, MD; one daughter Maureen R. Stagliano and her husband John, Jr. of Reading, PA; two sisters Connie Van Hook of Arizona and Barbara Phillips of Aston, PA; seven grandchildren, John Stagliano, III, Kaitlyn Stagliano, Nicole Stagliano, Charles J. Donovan, III, Christopher Donovan, Gabrielle Donovan and Isabella Donovan.

It was the suddenness that shocked me. This is one night 22 years ago. I had just moved to Miami and was visiting Coconut Grove for the first time. I remember being charmed. The side streets were lined with cozy bungalows. On the main streets there was light and music and an air of bohemia going upscale that made you want to linger and people-watch as women who looked as if they just stepped from the pages of Vogue were squired to and from nightclubs, restaurants and boutiques by handsome men in guayaberas.

HELEN HICKMAN WICKES, age 83 of West Grove, died Saturday, August 11, 2007 at her home. She was the wife of the late Walter Forman Wickes, Jr. who died in December of 2005 and with whom she shared 57 years of marriage. Born in Louisville Kentucky she was a daughter of the late Baylor Ormsby and Louise Jones Hickman. Helen and her husband were well known local Horseman breeders. Helen's family was her primary joy. She also cherished friends, her dogs, gardening and the family farm in West Grove.

Gwendolyn W. Zawodny, 63, owned cleaning serviceGwendolyn W. Zawodny, owner of a commercial and residential cleaning service, died Friday of injuries she suffered when she was struck by a pickup truck on Ridge Road in Baltimore County. The Dundalk resident was 63.The former Gwendolyn Wiles, who was born in Hampden, had owned Gwen's Minute Maid, a cleaning service, since 1976. Earlier, she drove a Baltimore County school bus for 10 years.Her marriage to Raymond Zawodny ended in divorce.She taught Sunday school and was a member of the Mission-Etts at Dundalk Assembly of God Church, 7400 German Hill Road, where services were held yesterday.

MATTHEW AARON TRUMAN, age 26 of Landenberg, died Monday, March 29, 2004, in Neward, DE, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was a Harley Davidson Technician working for Harley Davidson of Maryland in Elkridge, MD. A Funeral Service will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at the New London Presbyterian Church, 1986 Newark Rd./896 in New London. Friends and family may call from 9 to 11 A.M. before the service. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Foulk Funeral Home Inc., 200 Rose Hill Rd., West Grove, PA 19390 to set up a memorial fund.

JAYNE LOUISE HAYNES, 72, of Mathews, VA, passed away Friday, September 9, 2005 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert M. Haynes of Mathews and her daughters; Robin Fought of West Grove, PA, Diane Davis of Ashburn, VA and Kathy Ramirez of Hortonville, WI. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Katherine, Stephen and Christopher Fought; Kyle and Andrew Davis, and Sarah, Rachael and Nicholas Ramirez. After graduating from Notre Dame Academy in 1951, she attended the University of Maryland.

A car chase through Cecil County last night ended with the arrest of two Pennsylvania men and the retrieval of two stolen vehicles, according to Maryland State Police. Police responding to a report of a drunken driver on Route 273 in Calvert attempted to stop a 1990 Toyota Camry about 12:25 a.m. The vehicle fled, and police pursued it to Rising Sun, where they put tire-deflating strips in the road and stopped the car. Police discovered that the car had been stolen in Pennsylvania and the driver, Johnny Vega, 29, of West Grove, Pa., was arrested.
