The next meetings are: Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Reese & Carney LLP, 10715 Charter Drive, Suite 200, Columbia, for a conditional-use proposal for the Church of Latter-day Saints, 6020 Ten Oaks Road, Clarksville. Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Savage Volunteer Fire House, 8925 Lincoln St., Savage, for a proposal to build eight homes on 1.93 acres of the Scovitch property on Washington Avenue in North Laurel.

East Columbia Phelps Luck Drive: 5300 block, Long Reach. Two men entered a High's Store on Feb. 7, displayed a handgun and demanded money. They took the cash and fled. Dobbin Road: 6400 block, Owen Brown. Two men were approached Feb. 13 by two people who displayed handguns and stole their jewelry. West Columbia Little Patuxent Parkway: 10300 block, Town Center.

Auto dealer's plan for new building is approvedThe Howard County Planning Board has approved Apple Ford's plan to construct a 10,000-square-foot building for its used-vehicle and fleet sales departments behind the main dealership on Stanford Boulevard, just off Snowden River Parkway in east Columbia's Owen Brown village.Chip Doetsch, director of operations, said the dealership also plans to add a new lot on 1.8 acres to allow for more customer parking and stock.Police logLong Reach: 7100 block of Old Waterloo Road: Someone took unspecified property from a residence after cutting a lock between July 23 and 3 p.m. Tuesday.

A 76-year-old Elkridge man died yesterday when his car struck a tree and went over an embankment in Columbia, Howard County police said. The sole occupant of the car, George Norman Andrews of the 6800 block of Old Waterloo Road, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was traveling east on Little Patuxent Parkway, between Harpers Farm Road and Banneker Road, at 9:25 a.m. when the accident occurred. Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that Andrews' 1997 silver Cadillac DeVille apparently veered to the left.
