WASHINGTON -- Maryland guard Greivis Vasquez worked out with his third NBA team, the Washington Wizards, on Thursday and said his decision whether to remain in the NBA draft - or return to school - might not be made until just before the June 15 deadline. The 6-foot-6 junior, who was Maryland's leading scorer and rebounder last season, donned black shorts and a black Wizards practice jersey during a workout at Verizon Center with three other prospects. Flip Saunders, Washington's new coach, led the workout, and team president Ernie Grunfeld watched from a balcony above the practice court.

The remade Washington Wizards might have a distance to go before the overhauled roster can be considered a hit, but in Monday night's 101-95 victory over the visiting Chicago Bulls, they continued their progress with a resolve that often was sorely lacking in the team's previous incarnation. Forward Andray Blatche led the Wizards with a game-high 25 points and 11 rebounds, and newcomers Al Thornton, James Singleton and Quinton Ross were significant contributors in Washington's third win in four games since the team parted ways with many of its core players.

When the Washington Wizards set a franchise record for futility in Charlotte on Friday night, coach Flip Saunders explained his team's recent struggles by stating succinctly, "We just don't have enough." But as they prepared to host the Utah Jazz at Verizon Center on Saturday, the undermanned and overmatched Wizards realized that they were going to have a little less. Randy Foye was forced to finally rest his sore left wrist, which had been bothering him for nearly a month and contributed to his losing his starting point guard job to Shaun Livingston.

The new red, white and blue Washington Wizards opened the regular season Monday night against the New Jersey Nets — and the uniforms, logos and shiny court aren't all that fans should be interested in seeing at Verizon Center . John Wall had his first test against an elite point guard in All-Star Deron Williams, but the home opener was not a sellout, which is understandable considering the past three seasons of lottery failures for the...

With a week left before the NBA draft, rumors continue to swirl about the Washington Wizards and their desire to move up to land Arizona forward Derrick Williams. Jonathan Givony of Draft Express has been reporting for weeks that the Wizards were among the most active teams looking to make a move and wrote in his latest mock draft, "There is talk that Minnesota has offered Washington a swap of the Nos. 2 and 6 picks in a package that includes JaVale McGee, but that appears unlikely unless the Timberwolves part with more assets.

WASHINGTON - - The crowd at Verizon Center might have been smaller than usual because of some poor weather outside and some inferior play inside in recent weeks, but the few fans who opted to brave the snow and watch the Washington Wizards had plenty to cheer about Saturday night. With Antawn Jamison more aggressive than ever on the glass and Mike Miller more aggressive than any other time this season with his shot, the Wizards defeated the New York Knicks, 106-96, before a generously announced crowd of 16,233.

WASHINGTON -- It was the arena that Gheorghe Muresan longed to play in. But when the moment finally came last night, it was in a uniform that he never quite envisioned wearing. When Muresan suited up for his first game at the MCI Center it was against his former teammates, the Washington Wizards. That's because earlier yesterday the New Jersey Nets signed the free-agent center to a contract for the remaining two games of the season."I'm with a team and I'm glad to be back," said Muresan, who, because of injuries, had not suited up for a game since helping the then Washington Bullets to the playoffs two years ago. "It gives me more confidence for the future."

WASHINGTON -- Maurice Williams capped his career scoring performance with a game-winner at the buzzer. Williams scored 14 of his career-best 35 points in the fourth period, including a three-pointer as time expired, to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 105-102 victory over the Washington Wizards last night. "I thought they were going to foul, so that's why I attacked," Williams said of his initial move to the basket after the Bucks inbounded with 13 seconds remaining. "When I kind of backed it out, I saw they weren't going to foul me, so I thought, `When I shoot this, I am going to shoot a three.

WASHINGTON - Washington Wizards rookie Jared Jeffries waited and waited Christmas Day for the results of a magnetic resonance imaging test on his right knee, and when the news arrived, it was as bad as it could be. Jeffries, a 6-foot-11 forward from Indiana, suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament, and will miss the rest of the season, the team announced yesterday. "You never want to get injured and it was one of those freak accidents that happen," said Jeffries. "God's got a plan for everybody and I have to get through it and work hard and get ready for next year."

Late game: Last night's game between the Washington Wizards and Lakers in Los Angeles ended too late to be included in this edition. A complete report can be found in later editions or on the Internet at http://www.sunspot.net. LOS ANGELES - Let's see if we can sort this out. Kobe wants to show up Michael, and Phil knows what Michael does. But Michael also knows Phil's mind games. Doug has had enough of them, and so did Johnny. Not Tex, now with Phil, but he never got along much with Doug.
