The Washington Capitals and the Kuwait Embassy will sponsor a special night Dec. 17 at the Capital Centre for the families of men and women who served in the Persian Gulf war.Capitals vice president of marketing Lew Strudler announcethat Shaikh Saud Nasir Al-Sabah, ambassador for the state of Kuwait, will donate 1,000 tickets for that night's Capitals-Quebec Nordiques game to the USO for distribution.Also Washington Capitals sponsors, Rockwell InternationalMantech, Toyota and Giant Food, will be donating tickets to the USO and to military bases in the Washington area for distribution to families of men and women who served in the Persian Gulf.

The Washington Capitals will open the 1994-95 season on the road against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 1, the team announced yesterday.Highlights of the 84-game schedule include the home opener Oct. 7 against the Pittsburgh Penguins and visits by the Stanley Cup champion New York Rangers on Dec. 27, Jan. 14 and March 18.Washington's regular season ends April 8 at home against the Buffalo Sabres.

The Washington Capitals said yesterday that the National Hockey League had informed them it would take no action against New Jersey Devils center Laurie Boschman.The Capitals, who accused Boschman of slashing right wing Dino Ciccarelli in the third period, sent tapes of their Saturday game with the Devils to the NHL. Ciccarelli suffered a broken thumb and will be out six to eight weeks."The league felt that the tapes were inconclusive," Lou Corletto, Capitals director of public relations, said.
