On March 6, 2004; WALTER SMITH, JR., of Glen Burnie, beloved husband of Rose Smith; loving father of Cynthia Vernacchio and Walter (Eddie) Smith, III; dear son of Elsie Smith; devoted grandfather of four and great-grandfather of four. He is also, survived by many siblings, nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral Home, P.A., 1 Second Avenue, S.W. (at Crain Highway), Glen Burnie from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM on Wednesday and Thursday. A Funeral Ceremony will be held on Friday at 11 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel.

The Rev. Walter C. Smith Jr., former pastor of Towson United Methodist Church, died Thursday at the Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care of complications of a stroke. He was 73. Dr. Smith, who led the large congregation for 19 years before retiring in 1995, was also an avid decoy carver who won ribbons in competitions held in Ocean City and Havre de Grace. He and his wife of 52 years, Margaret T. Smith, lived for many years in Timonium and most recently resided at Oak Crest Village in Parkville.
