A man was found shot to death Friday in West Baltimore, the second early-morning slaying in the Walbrook neighborhood in less than three weeks, according to police. About 6:35 a.m., police found the unidentified man lying near a car in the 2300 block of N. Rosedale St., police said. Homicide detectives were notified within minutes as police began an investigation into the slaying. An alley in the same neighborhood was the scene of a homicide April 21. On that day, 24-year-old Qonta Waddell - who was on parole - was kidnapped in the presence of his mother, hogtied by his assailants and then shot to death in an alley in the 3100 block of Windsor Ave. He was killed two blocks from Friday's homicide scene.

McDonogh's No. 1 girls lacrosse team ran out to a seven-goal lead Wednesday and held off No. 2 Notre Dame Prep's second-half rally by stalling away most of the final 14 minutes to take a 10-6 victory and remain unbeaten in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference. The host Eagles, who dealt NDP its first loss of the season, scored on their first four shots and Molly Fernandez scored three times as they took an 8-1 halftime lead. McDonogh outshot NDP only 15-11 in the half, but the Blazers struggled to find the open spots against Eagles goalie Meg Fiorito, who made eight of her 12 saves in the half.

Parents and community members expressed concerns and confusion Thursday night over a plan to reorganize several Baltimore schools, closing failing ones and expanding those that are successful. More than 100 people came to the Polytechnic Institute/Western High School complex for the first of two hearings on school closure and merger proposals. The proposals are part of a reorganization plan unveiled last month by city schools chief Andr?s Alonso, who says his goal is to create more schools that students want to attend and where parents don't feel they have to settle.
