Support groups Volunteers 25 and older are needed to lead support groups for early-stage Alzheimer's disease and related dementia. Volunteers must be a licensed nurse or social worker with knowledge of the progression of the disease and have strong communication and group-support management skills. Training and background checks will be provided. Information: 410-561-9099. Annapolis Language Bank Volunteers with second-language capability are needed to help communicate with visitors who have difficulty speaking English.

Editor: The Annual AMC Holiday House Tour held recently showcasing eight stops across Harford County was a roaring success due to the ambitious and unselfish volunteers who made it happen. The homeowners decorated their lovely homes in an array of finery which proved that the size, architectural style and color schemes promote imagination and variety for the Christmas holidays. Thanks to gracious homeowners Cliff and Fern Brown, Nancy Welsh, Frank and Rosemary Hertsch, Steve and Vickie Arnold, and Lou and Char Hamel for sharing their talents and Christmas cheer.

Central Maryland has a lot to celebrate. This past week, hundreds of nonprofits across the region joined their voices to say "thank you" to the thousands of volunteers who selflessly give their time, effort and expertise each day as part of National Volunteer Week. From providing board of directors leadership and office support to painting, serving lunch, tutoring, harvesting produce and much more, volunteers of any age are invaluable to the nonprofits they serve, and they share something truly special with our vulnerable neighbors by listening and showing they care.

Arundel Lodge Community mental health center that serves mentally ill adults seeks a volunteer with experience in the employee benefits area to help the lodge redesign its employee leave and benefits package. Department of Transportation Department is seeking volunteers to act as "Annapolis Street Team" members and distribute and post marketing materials about the new circulator trolley and improved parking garages, and to assist locals and tourists in an effort to improve the community.
