ATLANTA — Minutes after Tyrod Taylor threw the game-winning touchdown in last week's preseason win over the Washington Redskins, Ravens coach John Harbaugh declared that the rookie quarterback had made the team. But the question that no one will answer this week is whether Taylor has won the No. 2 quarterback job. The Ravens' preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons Thursday is Taylor's last chance to prove he is ready to be the team's primary backup to Joe Flacco. Although the starters are expected to make a cameo at the Georgia Dome, Taylor will receive most of the work at quarterback and he understands the importance of what many fans consider a meaningless game.

Tyrod Taylor's debut in the NFL did little to quell sentiment that the Ravens need a veteran presence behind starter Joe Flacco . After leaving Virginia Tech as the school's all-time passer, Taylor got a rude welcome from the Philadelphia Eagles in their 13-6 victory over the Ravens in the preseason opener for both teams Thursday night. On his third play of the game, Taylor prematurely launched a deep pass to rookie wide receiver Torrey Smith that was intercepted by safety Jaiquawn Jarrett . A Taylor pass to Dennis Pitta in the right flat was behind the tight end. After an interception and 39-yard return by Ravens safety Bernard Pollard set up the offense near midfield, the unit stalled at the Eagles' 43-yard line, forcing the Ravens to punt.

Senior linebacker Kenny Tate was Maryland's lone selection to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team. The 25-man team was voted on by the ACC media at the conference's annual Football Kickoff in Pinehurst, N.C. Tate, who moved to linebacker during spring practice, was a 2010 first-team All-ACC pick at safety. The DeMatha graduate led the Terps with a team-best 58 solo tackles and 100 total tackles, which was good for second on the team. Tate also recorded 8.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, starting all 13 games.

Former Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor, drafted by Baltimore in the sixth round this year, has a few things in common with Ravens fans right now. He doesn't know when training camp is going to begin, but he is anxious for it to get here. "I'm ready to play some football," said Taylor, who threw out a ceremonial first pitch for the Bowie Baysox last Thursday, then signed autographs for fans for nearly an hour in the 100-degree heat. "I've been working real hard. I know whenever it's time to go to camp, I'll be prepared.

Former Virginia Tech point guard Malcolm Delaney has signed a contract with the French club Chalon, according to his father, Vincent. Delaney had tweeted about signing the deal earlier in the week. Delaney, a former Towson Catholic star, will still be eligible for the NBA draft. If he goes undrafted, he is expected to honor his contract with Chalon. NBADraft.net and DraftExpress.com both have Delaney going undrafted in Thursday. The Baltimore native has worked out for many NBA teams, including the Washington Wizards last week.

Malcolm Delaney has one thing on his mind leading up the NBA Draft: Prove the skeptics that think he'll go undrafted wrong by showing off the skills that made him such a dynamic scorer in high school and college. After withdrawing from last year's NBA Draft and returning to Virginia Tech for his senior year because he wasn't likely to be selected in the first round, the Baltimore native is once again being projected to be on the outside looking in come June 23. For Delaney, who worked out for the Washington Wizards with five other NBA hopefuls Thursday morning, it's an unusual situation and something he wants to show shouldn't be the case.

The Ravens ran a bunch of sprints in front of media members on Tuesday, but we were given only a few press passes for the workouts at Towson University, so I got left in The Baltimore Sun newsroom with the rest of the “B” team (that’s not to be confused with the b team , my previous employers who work upstairs). That doesn’t mean I didn’t learn a little bit about the Ravens’ rookies from the comfort of my cubicle. The team emailed out bios of the eight members of the team’s 2011 draft class on Tuesday.
