I didn't keep count, but it seemed to me that Vince McMahon's name was mentioned more times on TNA Impact on Thursday night than Samoa Joe's, Sting's and Kurt Angle's - combined. Angle and Jeff Jarrett made the WWE chairman the focus of their angle, and even Mick Foley took a shot at his former boss in his much-anticipated debut promo. The boss came back to Monday Night Raw, but it didn't really mean much. Tonight's entire episode had been hyped around the return of Vince McMahon to conduct a job evaluation for general manager John Laurinaitis. In the end, there wasn't much of a job evaluation at all. Instead, fans were treated to a variety of backstage segmets starring McMahon, ranging in quality from horrible and offensive to not very entertaining, and a show-closing angle featuring Big Show and John Cena.

Vince McMahon contorted his face and writhed in faux agony on the wrestling ring canvas as the raucous crowd howled in approval. Standing over the 58-year-old chairman of World Wrestling Entertainment was his smirking daughter, Stephanie, 27, reveling in a takedown of her father with a well-placed kick to his groin. Although he outwardly emoted intense pain, inside Vince had to be swelling with pride. That's because his daughter, like her brother, Shane, has followed him into the family business of professional wrestling, and this scene had played out just as it was scripted.

As the hell-raising, middle-finger-waving anti-hero of World Wrestling Entertainment, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin always does things on his own terms. Outside the scripted realm of professional wrestling, Austin shares that trait with his alter ego. For instance, when WWE approached Austin four years ago about writing his autobiography, he wasn't interested. At the time, WWE was the heavyweight champion of pop culture, and subsequent books by Mick "Mankind" Foley and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson each hit No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list.
