Police identified the woman killed in a shooting Friday evening as 42-year-old Tanya Raymond. She was a member of the 1988 class of Patterson High School, according to her Facebook profile, and lived in the block where she was shot and killed. Officers were called to the 2700 block of Kinsey Avenue at about 7:45 p.m. Friday and found two shooting victims inside a home, police said. The other victim, a man who police have not identified, was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

So, we don't need speed cameras? Perhaps Matt Hersl's life might not have been saved by the presence of speed cameras, but neither was it saved even by the presence of a state trooper ("City worker killed in City Hall crash," April 10). The interstate highways around Baltimore are race tracks where speed limits are routinely ignored by 15 mph or more. To those who feel the cameras victimize them I say: There are no "victims" in traffic enforcement, only violators. Judging from The Sun's reports, Matt Hersl was a magnificent man, neighbor and friend who will be sorely missed and mourned by his family.

A woman was killed and a man wounded Friday evening in a shooting in the Shipley Hill neighborhood of West Baltimore, police said. Officers called to the 2700 block of Kinsey Avenue at about 7:45 p.m. found the victims inside a home, police Det. Jeremy Silbert said. The woman died with a gunshot wound, Silbert said. The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Homicide detectives are investigating, Silbert said. Earlier Friday, a man was shot in the Penn North-Reservoir Hill area of the city, Silbert said.

A 23-year-old Rosedale man has been charged with trying to kill another man and the man's 4-year-old daughter after arranging a meeting at a nearby street corner and then opening fire, Baltimore County Police announced Friday. Rasean Dominick Penix arranged the Monday night meeting with a Baltimore man, also 23, by phone prior to the victim and his daughter arriving at the intersection of Old Home and Meadow roads about 8:30 p.m., in the vehicle being driven by another person, police said.

The funeral procession for Matthew Hersl crawled through the tight streets of Southeast Baltimore, moving past the Milan restaurant, the Inner Harbor Travel agency and the Little Italy parking garage. Steve Hersl, Matt's brother, blared his car horn as he inched along. A blue passenger van with a Baltimore Orioles hat resting on the dashboard led the convoy through the 45-year-old city finance supervisor's neighborhood. As the procession passed his home, Steve leaned out his black Hyundai and yelled, "I love you, Matt!"

A 26-year-old inmate at a state prison in Jessup died Friday after he was found with severe head injuries on Thursday night, Maryland State Police said. Javaughn A. Young was found lying on a walkway in a wing of the Maryland Correctional Institution about 7 p.m., after another inmate alerted correctional officers that an inmate needed assistance, police said. More than 60 inmates are housed in the wing. The officers found Young with severe head trauma and called for medical assistance, police said.

Baltimore Police asked for the public's help Friday in identifying victims of a Dundalk man they say collected and traded child pornography. David Ralph Fisher, 42, of the 6500 block of St. Helena Street in Dundalk, was arrested Thursday after a sting operation by officers posing as a 14-year-old girl, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. He faces charges of possession and distribution of child pornography and sexual solicitation of a minor. Detectives began investigating Fisher in November after an associate reported that she had found photographs and videos on his computer that showed adults having sex with children as young as two years old, police said.

It seemed every seat was filled during the Baltimore Orioles' exciting playoff run last season except the one that belonged to Matt Hersl. Friends say the rangy, baldheaded Orioles regular never sat during games but ran around Camden Yards, laughing with season ticket holders, keeping an eye on the batter to make sure he had the best vantage point to snag an errant fly ball or a home run souvenir. Hersl was a vigilant "ballhawk," and brought the same sharp eye and enthusiasm to his Little Italy community, where he served as the neighborhood watch leader.

With blood still streaked on the doorway of a Southwest Baltimore home where a man was shot earlier in the morning, a woman who rented a room there nonchalantly recalled hearing the four shots. "After the first shot, I screamed and dropped to my knees and ran upstairs," said the woman, who identified herself as Cheryl Nancy, 25. Two of her four children stood on the front stoop, near a pack of cigarettes and a flask-sized bottle of vodka. It's not the first such incident of violence she's seen.

Baltimore Police say a man was stabbed to death early Sunday morning after apparently getting into an argument with two other people near the Inner Harbor. Police said the incident occurred at about 2:18 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of East Pratt Street. The victim, identified by police as a 20-year-old black male, was leaving work when two individuals approached him and became engaged in an argument. The argument escalated and the victim was stabbed multiple times in the upper body, police said.
