4 options proposed for east-west roadThe Greater Severna Park Council is scheduled to discuss various plans for an east-west boulevard, stretching from Veterans Highway to Route 2, during its monthly meeting tomorrow.The group's Public Works Committee and the Severn Run Federation will address how each of four proposed options would affect Severna Park.The proposals range from plowing a new path from Veterans Highway to Mission Street to painting new stripes on Benfield Boulevard.The controversial road has been under discussion since the 1960s, when an east-west highway project began.

At a motorists' oasis along Veterans Highway in Millersville, several gasoline stations vie almost daily to undercut the other guy as the price of gasoline has fallen across the state and country to its lowest point in two years. In this part of Anne Arundel County, motorists are benefiting both from the nationwide drop and a price war among five gas stations close to one another. The average price for a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline statewide is $1.27 per gallon, having tumbled 27 cents from a year ago, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic's latest survey.

A man armed with a small-caliber handgun robbed a Wendy's restaurant in the 8200 block of Veterans Highway Tuesday night, county police said yesterday.The man entered the store about 9:30 p.m. and ordered several customers to lie on the floor. He went behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, then ran from the store.The robber was described as a black male in his 40s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 145 pounds. Police said he had a dark complexion and a mustache.

A Severn woman was injured Monday night when someone threw an object at the windshield of a car, county police said.Marge Dinsmore, 46, of the 200 block of Burns Crossing Road, was a front-seat passenger in a 1989 Ford Bronco driven by Kirk Allen Gerdsmeier, 25, of the 600 block of Cog Court. They were northbound on Veterans Highway approaching Benfield Boulevard shortly after 11 p.m. when an unknown object struck the windshield, police said.Flying glass struck Ms. Dinsmore in the face. She was treated at North Arundel Hospital and released, hospital officials said.

Jumpers Hole Road work discussedMembers of the Greater Severna Park Council's public works committee have met with Councilwoman Diane Evans and area community representatives to discuss planned improvements for Jumpers Hole Road, dropped earlier this year from the county budget because of escalating costs.The county is planning to ask the Army Corps of Engineers if it can adjust requirements for the expensive wetlands bridging needed for road improvements, GSPC Public Works Chairman Dan Nataf said.

The Kentucky Fried Chicken at 8073 Veterans Highway was robbed at gunpoint of an undisclosed amount of money at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.According to police, a 25- to 30-year-old man entered the restaurant, pointed a small black handgun at employees and customers, and ordered them to lie on the floor. After seizing the money, the robber ran.
