On May 5, 2006, ADA M. SMITH (nee Linton), beloved wife of the late Vernon Smith, Sr.; devoted mother of Diana Jones, Janet Vaughn, Karen Schreyer, Charles, Francis and Vernon Smith, Jr. and the late Melvin Smith. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, 300 Mace Avenue on Monday at 1 P.M. Visiting hours, Sunday, 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. Interment, Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.

On October 31, 2003, KATE MARIANNE SMITH-WORRAL, M.D., (nee Uhlig), formerly of Sparks, wife of the late A. Roland "Van" Worrall, mother of Vernon Smith Jr., M.D., and Robin L. Smith, grandmother of Elysia Smith, sister of the late Ilse Bruehsel, M.D. Interment will be private in Philadelphia, PA. A Memorial Service will be held at a late date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, William Black Medical Research Building, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, 650 W. 168th St., New York, NY 10032-9982.

Smith; step-daughter Sharynne Shelton; brother Oliver Cassell Sr.; sister Lillian Stewart; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; adored niece and nephew, Stephanie Barham and Tony Dixon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Friends may call at the family owned MARCH FUNERAL HOME WEST, INC., 4300 Wabash Avenue on Thursday after 9 A.M. Family will receive friends on Friday at Macedonia Baptist Church, 718 W. Lafayette Avenue at 10, followed by Funeral Services at 11. In lieu of flowers contributions to Macedonia Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.

The Carroll planning commission expressed little curiosity yesterday about the county Board of Education's request for an additional $11 million for capital projects in fiscal 1998.However, the county Department of Parks and Recreation wasn't so lucky, even though Director Richard Soisson is seeking $295,905, or 17 percent, less than the department received this year.Commission members, who spent a second day reviewing capital budget requests from department heads, told Soisson to further pare his $1.4 million budget proposal.
