TANEYTOWN WILL OPEN its first farmers' market Saturday. Called the Main Street Market Day and Farmers' Market, the event originated from an effort to educate the public about downtown parking, said Barbara Leyhe, who helped organize the event. One of the often-heard complaints about downtown has been the lack of parking. As residents and city officials began working on the parking issue, mention was made of starting a farmers' market. The two ideas came together, and organizers decided that a good way to promote parking would be to hold the farmers' market at a seldom-used municipal parking lot behind the Fire Department.
