F. Duncan Cornell, a retired lawyer who had served on the Board of Child Care of the United Methodist Church for nearly 50 years and was also a longtime Maryland General Hospital board member, died Friday of pneumonia at St. Joseph Medical Center. The Lutherville resident had celebrated his 94th birthday last month. Frank Duncan Cornell, the son of a psychiatrist and a homemaker, was born in New York City and raised in Menands, N.Y., a suburb of Albany. Mr. Cornell, who was known as Duncan, was a 1934 graduate of the Milne School in Albany.

On Tuesday, September 8, 2009, KENNETH L. REGENOLD, 89, passed away at Peterson Nursing Home in Osage City. He was born April 21, 1920, at Osage City, the son of Charles Cleveland and Ora Violet Hafer Regenold. He graduated from Osage City High School in 1938. After high school he attended the College of Emporia and played football. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. After his service, he went to the University of Kansas where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was an Electrical Engineer for Westinghouse in Baltimore, Maryland until he retired in 1985.

In 1972, Lewis Foust and a group of men built a new sanctuary at one of Baltimore County's oldest churches, more than doubling its size. The task took months and had its share of setbacks, but when it was complete, Foust had a sense of accomplishment that never waned - until Friday, when he saw his work destroyed by fire. "That's really the hurtful part - to see what you have done just gone," Foust said in the parking lot of the Sharp Street United Methodist Church in Chase. A two-alarm fire early Friday caused the roof of the sanctuary to collapse.

Warren R. Wanner, a decorated World War II turret gunner and a retired maintenance mechanic, died Saturday of a heart attack at his Fallston home. He was 88. Mr. Wanner, who had lived for the past five weeks at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Southern Maryland, was a longtime Fallston resident. He was born in Baltimore and raised in East Baltimore, where he attended Patterson High School and later earned his General Educational Development diploma while serving in the Amy. Mr. Wanner joined the Maryland National Guard and served with the 175th Infantry Regiment Company of the 29th Division in Europe during the early years of World War II. In 1943, he joined the Army Air Corps and was assigned to the 535th Bombardment Squadron - the Red Devils - where he was a ball turret gunner aboard Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses based in Ridgewell, England.
