Jason Savedoff's bail was reduced and his travel restrictions were eased after he pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court this week to conspiracy and theft of major art, according to a court order made public Friday. Savedoff, 24, was indicted in July along with Barry Landau, 63, on charges that they stole dozens of historic documents worth more than $1 million from museums along the East Coast, including the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore. Landau is still awaiting trial, but Savedoff pleaded guilty Thursday . He faces a maximum of 15 years in prison at his sentencing, scheduled for Feb. 10. According to a court order signed after his plea, but filed Friday, Savedoff's bond has been reduced from $250,000 to $150,000, with the difference to be paid to his mother, Antonia Schang, who has acted as her son's custodian during the court proceedings.

A 40-year-old deaf woman was struck by a Light Rail train Friday night at South Howard and West Camden streets, a Maryland Transit Administration spokesman said. The unidentified woman was standing near the Convention Center stop with a companion at about 8:20 p.m. when she stepped out in front of the northbound train, said Terry Owens, spokesman with the Maryland Transit Administration. He said the train operator sounded the horn, but the woman did not hear it and she did not see the train because she had her back to it. The women was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma for non-life-threatening head injuries, Owens said.

Two 14-year-old boys suspected of stealing two motorcycles from Pete's Cycle Co. Inc. led county police early yesterday on a brief chase that ended in an accident at Ritchie Highway and Church Street, officials said.Both boys were in police custody yesterday afternoon. Northern District detectives were expected to question them for most of the day, said Officer Randy Bell, a department spokesman.No one was injured in the three-car collision, which occurred after the boys jumped out of the van they were riding in, leaving it gear, Officer Bell said.

Three Carroll motorists have been questioned by state police in Monday's fatal collision on Route 140 near Finksburg in which a Mount Airy Middle School teacher was killed.Witnesses reported seeing three cars drag racing at speeds greater than 100 mph just before the crash about 9: 30 p.m. A 1991 Nissan sports car went out of control, crossed a grass median and struck a 1997 Mitsubishi driven by the teacher, police said.Geraldine Lane "Geri" Wu, 42, of Westminster was killed instantly, police said.

A two-alarm fire in a Glen Burnie apartment building yesterday displaced at least two families and injured a woman hurt, fire officials said.The unidentified woman was taken to North Arundel Hospital complaining of lower back pain.Officials did not know what caused the fire, which started in a second-story apartment in the 7800 block of Americana Circle and spread through the rafters.Neil Altman, 25, said he received a call from his wife, Susan Marie, shortly before 4 p.m. saying that she smelled smoke.

A woman died late last night when a fire raced through her home in the 5100 block of Arbutus Ave. in the city's Pimlico section, a Fire Department official said.The victim's name was not immediately available, but neighbors identified her as "Miss Maggie."The fire official said she was 66 years old and recently had suffered a stroke, which limited her mobility.The victim, who lived alone on the first floor of a brick two-story rowhouse, was found by firefighters on the couch in the living room in the front of the house, which is where the blaze apparently began.

A Howard County woman was assaulted while jogging in Patapsco Valley State Park near Relay on Thursday evening, according to a spokesman for the Department of Natural Resources.The unidentified woman in her 40s told police that she was attacked from behind while jogging at 6: 10 p.m. in the Avalon Area of the park, along River Road between the swinging bridge and Gun Road near the Baltimore County line, said DNR spokesman John Surrick.The man pulled a knife while the two struggled, Surrick said.

A 58-year-old Frederick County resident is the first Marylander this year to be diagnosed with West Nile fever. The unidentified woman did not require hospitalization, according to the state Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Officials would release no further information on the case. Last year, the state reported 36 cases of West Nile encephalitis or meningitis in people, the first on Aug. 23. Seven of the victims died. Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus have been found this summer in eight Maryland jurisdictions.

Bel Air police are releasing few details about a woman who said she delivered a stillborn baby at a home in the town and then threw the body away. The unidentified woman contacted police Tuesday to say she had wrapped the infant's body in a plastic bag and placed it in a trash bin just outside the downtown area of the Harford County seat. Police escorted the woman to the 900 block of Sablewood Road, where she pointed out the exact location of the refuse container. Harford County Sheriff's Department deputies assisted the town police at the scene and recovered the body at about 6 p.m. The woman was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for treatment.

An unidentified woman was fatally shot last night and two other people were wounded as gunfire erupted in West Baltimore's Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood, city police said. An officer on foot in the area heard the gunshots about 9:40 p.m. and arrived in the 1600 block of N. Gilmor St. to find two women and a man lying in the street, bleeding from wounds. All three were rushed to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, but one of the women - who was shot in the back - went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance and died, said Officer Donny Moses.
