An unidentified woman was killed Friday night when she was struck by a sport utility vehicle after walking into traffic at Baltimore-Washington Parkway and Route 202 in Landover, police said yesterday. The woman was white, age 25 to 30, small in stature with medium-length brown hair. She was struck about 10:20 p.m. by a red or burgundy SUV, which did not stop, police said. Witnesses are asked to call Detective Robert Scherr of the U.S. Park Police at 202-610-8740 or 301-344-4520.

A pre-kindergarten student at Northwood Elementary School in Baltimore brought a small gun to school Friday morning, according to school officials. A teacher discovered the weapon and notified administrators who called the school police. School police arrested the mother of the 5-year-old boy, Vernetta Holson-Anderson, 37, of the 6900 block of Blanch Road, at Northwood Elementary, according to a police document. Holson-Anderson was charged with giving a minor access to a firearm, reckless endangerment and having a handgun on her and in a vehicle, the documents said.

Two people were killed in separate traffic accidents over the weekend and a woman was fatally struck by a train in Frederick County, authorities reported.In Prince George's County, an unidentified woman was struck and killed by a Chevrolet Blazer about 4: 38 a.m. yesterday while walking in the northbound lane of Branch Avenue just south of Allentown Road in Camp Springs, according to state police at Forestville.Police are investigating the incident.In Cecil County, Charles Gifford, 17, was driving a Mazda pickup truck north on Route 213, south of Basil Avenue in Chesapeake City about 10: 14 p.m. Saturday when his truck crossed the center line and collided with a Chevrolet Suburban, said Sgt. Charles Pertain of the state police barracks at North East.

A 22-year-old woman was injured early Saturday after a vehicle fleeing police drove onto the sidewalk after the second night of the Greek folk festival, police said. Police were called to the 4800 block of Eastern Ave. about 2 a.m. after a woman said a man who made a lewd comment at her pulled out a handgun and pointed it at her and her boyfriend, according to an incident report. As witnesses notified security for the Greek Folk Festival, the man and three others fled in a 1999 BMW. With the 500 block of S. Ponca St. closed to traffic because of the festival, the car veered onto the sidewalk and up a ramp in front of St. Nicholas Church.

A vehicle struck two pedestrians in Parkville last night, killing one of them, Baltimore County police said. The accident happened about 9:05 p.m. when a vehicle hit two people in the 9600 block of Bel Air Road. One victim was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, the other to an undisclosed hospital, police said. One of the victims, an unidentified woman, died, according to police. County police said late last night that the accident was under investigation.

An unidentified woman was found shot today, lying on a mattress in the rear yard of a vacant house in Govans, Baltimore police said.Police said the woman, about 30 years old, was found about noon at the house in the 600 block of McCabe Ave. She was reported in critical condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital.She was suffering from gunshot wounds to her head, ankle and finger, and from exposure, police said.

A Linthicum woman was robbed of her purse Tuesday by a man driving by her on a Linthicum parking lot, county police said.The unidentified woman was walking to her car on the parking lot of the Office Depot in the 6600 block of Ritchie Highway about 6: 30 p.m. when a man drove by, snatched her purse and sped off north on Ritchie Highway, police said.Police LogLinthicum: Someone pried the lock off a construction trailer in the 800 block of Fairview Ave. overnight Tuesday and stole two hammer drills and a telephone.

Woodmoor Body of woman found near house The body of an unidentified woman with apparent head injuries was found yesterday morning in the backyard of a home in the Woodmoor area, and Baltimore County homicide detectives are investigating the death. The woman was not a resident of the house in the 6800 block of Fox Meadow Road, near Woodlawn Cemetery, where her fully clothed body was found by neighborhood children about 9:30 a.m., said Sgt. Vickie Warehime, a police spokeswoman. The body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore, Warehime said.

An unidentified woman whose body was found floating in Spa Creek, anchored by a large rock, Thursday morning was gagged before she was drowned, the state medical examiner said yesterday.An Annapolis man and his son found the body while crabbing in a boat near a pier in Truxtun Heights Park. Annapolis police said the woman's hand had been tied to a large rock and that her body showed "obvious signs of trauma."As of yesterday afternoon, police had not identified the woman. They said no recent missing persons reports fit her description.

If someone I don't immediately recognize greets me with a big "hello," I always respond enthusiastically, figuring it's just a matter of time before I make some sort of association and remember that person's first name. Usually, this method works out quite well. But a few weeks ago, it worked out in such a way that it inspired this week's column. I was sitting at a high school winter concert with my husband, enjoying the choral music as best I could without falling into a deep, snoring sleep.

Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found yesterday afternoon on the property of an East Baltimore middle school. Detectives and crime scene technicians stood over the body of a black woman, slumped on the sidewalk that runs through William C. March Middle School, south of Clifton Park. She was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds, but police had not determined her identity as of last night, according to Officer Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman.

An unidentified woman was struck and killed by a Maryland Transit Administration bus yesterday morning in Fullerton, police and MTA officials said. The No. 55 bus on the Fox Ridge-to-Towson University route was heading west on Fullerton Avenue and made a left onto Belair Road heading south "when the six passengers aboard said they heard a thump," said MTA spokesman Richard E. Solli. "The bus operator immediately stopped. When they looked behind them, they saw a woman lying in the street," Solli said.

An autopsy on the skeletal remains of an unidentified woman found inside an abandoned West Baltimore building last week has determined that the death was a homicide - the result of a blow to the head, city police said yesterday. Officers responding to the 1500 block of Warwick Ave. on Dec. 30 found the upper half of the skeleton in a chair and the remaining bones scattered nearby, apparently by animals, police said. The autopsy indicated that the victim was African-American, in her 20s and about 5 feet 2 inches tall, and police said they were checking missing person reports in hopes of identifying her.
