Baltimore Police have identified the man arrested after running onto the field in Friday night's Orioles game as Christopher Fatkin, a 20-year-old Parkville resident. Fatkin, of the 9900 block of Hilltop Drive, has been charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct, police said. His experience on the field raised some eyebrows, as he was taken down by an umpire who was working the game. As Baltimore Sun sports writer Dan Connolly points out in his story about Friday's loss to the Oakland Athletics , this is the fourth time this year a fan has run out onto the field.

For the first time in nearly seven years, the Orioles had a chance to go six games over .500 on Friday night. Instead, they received a middling performance from their de facto ace while their offense provided less pop than the plate umpire. With right-hander Jake Arrieta struggling with his command from the outset, the Orioles saw their four-game winning streak end in a 5-2 loss to the Oakland Athletics, a nondescript contest that will be best remembered by what happened during the seventh-inning stretch.

The biggest hit of the night during Friday's Orioles-Athletics game at Camden Yards came during the seventh-inning stretch, when a bare-chested fan ran onto the field. He ran around as the Baltimore City Police closed in on him. He ran down the third-base line and slid face first into home plate. He got up to the cheers of fans. And then he went down just as quickly - a blind-side tackle from plate umpire Jeff Kellogg. The fans erupted again.

A contentious four-game series with the Boston Red Sox ended Sunday with four more ejections, Michael Gonzalez 's not denying that he threw a purpose pitch behind David Ortiz , and Buck Showalter and Jeremy Guthrie criticizing the umpiring crew. "I've said it before: Sometimes those who are in control of the game — I know the umpires have to control it — show a lack of feel by not understanding what is going on," said Guthrie, who hit Kevin Youkilis with a changeup to load the bases with two outs in the fourth inning, resulting in plate umpire Marty Foster 's warning both benches.

News item: Longtime Orioles umpires attendant Ernie Tyler, who worked for the team for more than a half century and ended his own O's iron-man streak at 3,769 games to attend Cal Ripken Jr. 's Hall of Fame induction, has died at the age of 86. My take: It's hard to express what Ernie meant to the organization and everyone who worked regularly at Memorial Stadium or Camden Yards. He was a truly fine gentleman who was as kind and good-hearted as anyone I have ever met — and not just in the baseball business.

The Orioles' Ernie Tyler never thought of himself as special. He once described himself as "the little old guy who runs back and forth getting the foul balls. " But he was more than that, said Orioles' players and managers whose lives he touched in his 51 years as umpires attendant for the club. Tyler, 86, died Thursday of complications from a brain tumor. "Ernie was a wonderful man who will bypass everything and go straight to heaven," said Andy Etchebarren, former Orioles catcher.
