Rebecca Hulit's menagerie mostly charmed children in her Howard County trailer park community -- until Kiss-Kiss, a diaper-wearing duck, joined the crew.Adopted six months ago when it was only a duckling, Kiss-Kiss prefers to stay indoors with Hulit. It sleeps and showers with her. It even throws little tantrums if not properly tucked in at night.During waking hours, Kiss-Kiss -- its bottom wrapped in diapers made of plastic, batting and cotton rags -- prances around the trailer in one of eight outfits that Hulit has made, including two velour ones for dressing up and six not-so-dressy housecoats.

MARYDEL -- Eufemia Fuentes scooped up a handful of cornmeal mix, deftly rolled it into a ball, gently pressed it with three knuckles of her right hand, slipped it between wax paper in a steel press and flattened it. Another tortilla was ready for the griddle. The Walker trailer park off Route 311, where Fuentes and scores of other Guatemalan immigrants live in this Caroline County town near the Delaware border, has acquired a distinctive flavor. Tejano music blares from car stereos, children peer from the windows of rundown trailers, and immigrants trudge home from jobs in poultry-processing plants.

The Maryland Aviation Administration filed suit Wednesday in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court against the owners of a Hanover mobile-home park as part of its program to move residents away from the roar of jets. The MAA wants to close the mobile-home park and move about 150 residents from the noise zone, land around the Baltimore-Washington International Airport deemed too noisy for homes. The park sits on 17 of 72 acres off Ridge Road owned by Symcha and Joan Shpak. The suit was filed after the Shpaks turned down the MAA's offer to buy a perpetual easement that would prevent future residential use, but allow warehouse and other light industrial uses for which the land is zoned.
