L ast weekend's snowstorm brought to mind the name of Alexander J. "Denny" Dennistone, the plucky New York native who gained eternal Sun fame for braving a howling 1899 blizzard to make sure his customers received their newspapers. The three-day blizzard, which swept up the East Coast and pounded Maryland from Feb. 11-14, brought life to a standstill. The storm dumped 21.4 inches of snow on the city and surrounding area, on top of 11.7 inches from a Feb. 5-8 blizzard.

Colleges Freshman running back DeRon Ames , a walk-on from Snow Hill, had 14 carries for 35 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown run, in Towson's intrasquad scrimmage. "All of our running backs are pretty banged up right now," coach Rob Ambrose said. "So we came into this scrimmage knowing that DeRon was going to get a lot of work in the scrimmage. He really responded and he ran well. … DeRon is like the 'Energizer Bunny.' He keeps going and going and he runs very hard.

Thanks but no thanks! We're happy to stay in good old Towson and the surrounding areas for good food and entertainment. Paul Gerkens, Towson

After two days of heavy sedation, Erika Brannock awoke Wednesday morning in her hospital bed to dramatic and gruesome news: Her left leg had been amputated below the knee, the only medical option for a team of surgeons handling traumatic injuries from the Boston Marathon bombings. The 29-year-old Towson preschool teacher took the news with courage, relatives said. Then, unable to speak because of a ventilator tube, she wrote out a simple message: She wanted to see photos of her students.

I do not understand how anybody can hold the Recher Theatre or especially Brian Recher responsible for the melee that occurred outside of the Towson theater ("Kamenetz blames Recher for Towson melee," Sept. 26). We have been doing business with the Recher Theatre since our son (now age 29) was involved in the local band scene. I always found this theater to be on top of the drinking issue and even sending people out of the theater for taking a sip out of their parents' cups.
