Towson United

The Rev. Walter C. Smith Jr., former pastor of Towson United Methodist Church, died Thursday at the Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care of complications of a stroke. He was 73. Dr. Smith, who led the large congregation for 19 years before retiring in 1995, was also an avid decoy carver who won ribbons in competitions held in Ocean City and Havre de Grace. He and his wife of 52 years, Margaret T. Smith, lived for many years in Timonium and most recently resided at Oak Crest Village in Parkville.

On July 3, 2009, Pamela B. Mitchell A Memorial Service will be held at Towson United Methodist Church, Saturday, July 11th, 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Music Department, Towson United Methodist Church, 501 Hampton Lane, Towson, MD 21286. Arrangements by the family owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc.

EMIL D. TABORSKY, April 23, 1919-May 28, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Louise Zeman Taborksy, children Roger and C. Jeanne Taborsky and Jan Parekh; grandchildren, David and Brian Reamer, Angela Taborsky, Tara, Jay and Neal Parekh, great-grandchildren Ty and Brennan Reamer and Julian Palad. On August 10, 2004, DR. T. EDGIE RUSSELL JR., husband of Donna G. Russell, father of T. Edgie Russell III, Susan W. Russell and John Edgie Russell, stepfather of Jeffrey A. On December 13, 2005, FADRA L. GREENE (nee Le Blanc), beloved wife of the late Melvin R. Greene, Jr.; devoted mother of Melvin R. Greene III of Eagan, MN, Richard H. Greene of Richmond, VA and the late Fadra Lee Mc Guire; dear sister of Sara Lee Houston; also survived by five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family will receive friends in the Towson United Methodist Church on Saturday, from 1 to 2 P.M., at which time a service will be held. Interment Druid Ridge Cemetery.

Raymond A. Allen III, a computer analyst and consultant who was also a Vietnam War veteran, died of cancer Thursday at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The Jacksonville resident was 64. Mr. Allen was born in Neptune, N.J., and raised in Bernardston, Mass. He earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Pennsylvania State University at State College in 1969. In 1974, he earned a master's degree in business from the University of Maryland, College Park. In 1964, Mr. Allen enlisted in the Army and served in Vietnam as a forward observer and later as commander of a field artillery unit.

On February 21, 2008, JOSEPH FRANK; beloved husband of Ruth Sandy; devoted father of David R. and his wife Jocelyn P. Sandy (nee Price); loving grandfather of Joseph D. Sandy; dear brother of Dr. Robert Sandy and Betty Jane Watson. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and three step-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 25 at 10 A.M. in the Towson United Methodist Church.

The last commercial operation in Baltimore County's Hampton neighborhood went out of business before an electric lamp or record player had been invented, before postage stamps were used, and before California, Texas or Florida became states. Since Ridgely's ironworks stopped production at the Hampton estate sometime around 1829, the community has been residential. And according to many residents of Hampton -- a community north of Towson -- they'd like to keep it that way. But a developer wants to build a senior housing complex in Hampton and is seeking a zoning change on an 11-acre parcel on Hampton Lane owned by Towson United Methodist Church.

Evelyn Bayne Denton, a musician and daughter of one of Baltimore County's last blacksmiths, died of kidney failure April 10 at the Pickersgill Retirement Community in Towson. She was 91. Dixie Bayne, as she was known to her family and friends, was born in Baynesville, where her father's family had settled in the 18th century. Her father, James E. Bayne, operated the family's blacksmith shop, which stood for more than 125 years at the southeast corner of Joppa Road and Loch Raven Boulevard.
