TSU accounting program accreditedTowson State University's accounting program has received full accreditation by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business.The accounting program is part of the university's School of Business and Economics. It is the first university in the state to receive the accreditation for accounting.

Is it violence or graceful movement? Is it landscape or swirling fabric? Is it something solid or something liquid that we see in the color woodcuts of Phillia Yi? Those are some of the contrasts and contradictions suggested by the works of this artist, whose images also reflect the experience of a Korean woman living in America. They are on view through Oct. 20 at Towson State University.At the Asian Arts Gallery in the Fine Arts building at Towson State University. Despite continuously rising enrollment since its establishment in 1984, Towson State University's Columbia campus will be dismantled at the end of this year's spring semester due to state budget cutbacks.All credit and non-credit classes scheduled for the spring 1991 semester will be offered as planned, said Norma Long, dean of the College of Continuing Studies at Towson State University.Courses previously offered at the Columbia campus will be available to students at the Towson campus."It will just be less convenient for the Howard County student," she said.

Chinese sculptor Hou Rong, founding director of the Beijing Modern Sculpture Institute, came to the United States four years ago as sculptor-in-residence at Towson State University, the first such residency by a contemporary sculptor from China at a university in this country.He stayed on in the master of fine arts program at Towson, where his thesis exhibit opens today at the University Union Gallery. It will include some of the life-size replicas he has created of the famous army of terra cotta warriors unearthed at the tomb of Qin Shi Huang in China.

A Howard County student was among the four top winners in the 38th annual Baltimore Science Fair at Towson State University this weekend.Shalin Desai of Atholton High School took first place in the high school division's physical sciences category.Shalin and James Pociluyko of Calvert Hall College in Towson will represent the area at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Mississippi Beach, Miss., in May.In the middle school division, the first-place winners are: Justin Hlavin of Cockeysville Middle School, biological sciences; and Patrick Venanzi of Dumbarton Middle School in Rodgers Forge, physical sciences.

A Dec. 25 article on a ruling by the Open Meetings Compliance Board that the Town Council of Ocean City was in violation of the state's Open Meetings Act incorrectly attributed to Jack Schwartz, chief counsel to the attorney general, a remark characterizing the finding as a "strong rebuke." The remark was made by James S. Keat, who teaches journalism at Towson State University.The Sun regrets the error.
