MADISON, N.J. -- John Guglielmo (2-0-1) passed for two touchdowns, Paul Ferreri ran for another, and Johns Hopkins used second-half ball control to defeat Fairleigh Dickinson-Madison (1-1), 23-6, in non-conference football last night.Hopkins scored a second-quarter touchdown and a third-quarter field goal for a 9-0 lead entering the fourth quarter, then capitalized on a Jersey Devils turnover to put the game away. Hopkins recovered a FDU fumble on the home team's seven-yard line, and on fourth down, Guglielmo, a 6-foot junior, threw to Lou Angelos for a 15-yard touchdown pass.

WAYNE, N.J. -- Frostburg State quarterback Mike Jones threw three touchdown passes and ran for another, leading the Bobcats to a 46-16 upset over William Paterson in the ECAC Division III Southeast championship game.Jones, the MVP of the game, guided the Bobcats (8-3) to their first postseason victory. The Pioneers finished the season 8-2-1.Jones completed nine of 10 passes for 214 yards and rushed for 125 yards on nine carries. His biggest run -- a 64-yard touchdown -- came with the Bobcats ahead 11-8 and 49 seconds to play in the first half.

Gilman junior quarterback Ambrose Wooden showed yesterday afternoon there is pretty much nothing he can't do. Wooden rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown on nine carries, threw for another touchdown and even completed a pass to himself to lead the No. 4 Greyhounds to a 37-14 win over Calvert Hall before a homecoming crowd of more than 2,000 at Roland Park. Gilman improved to 4-3 overall, 2-0 in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference. The Greyhounds' losses have been to DeMatha and Urbana -- the Nos. 1 and 2 teams in the Associated Press state poll -- and to New York private school power Poly Prep.

The Cavaliers (8-0), The Sun's top-ranked team, was moved up to No. 1 in the nation by Rivals.com last week. 23 Points that quarterback Nick Elko played a part in as No. 5 Arundel (3-0) defeated North County, 30-18. Elko, who completed 16 of 26 for 126 yards, tossed two touchdown passes, ran 84 yards for a touchdown and kicked two extra points and a 29-yard field goal.

Running back Priest Holmes had a 64-yard touchdown run.2 The Ravens didn't allow the Steelers' running game to get untracked, which shut down the play-action passing game and made quarterback Mike Tomczak more of stationary target.3 The Ravens didn't have a turnover. Trailing by one point with 43 seconds left in the game, Shane Kibbe threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Evan Earnest to lift the visiting Johns Hopkins football team over Randolph-Macon, 21-14, yesterday. Kibbe finished 21 of 36 for 164 yards and a touchdown for the Blue Jays (1-1). Earnest made eight catches for 60 yards. The Yellow Jackets (1-1) took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, capitalizing on two Hopkins fumbles. Phil Roberts' 4-yard touchdown run with 3:17 left in the first quarter cut the Macon lead in half.

SALISBURY -- Quarterback Lee Annetta set school records with 437 passing yards and five touchdown passes as Salisbury State routed Guilford, 41-3, yesterday.Annetta, who completed 28 of 42 passes with one interception, threw touchdown passes of 36, 5, 11, 2 and 13 yards. The senior finished his four-year career with a school record 5,817 passing yards.Annetta made sure his entire receiving corps got into the act. In all, eight players had receptions, led by Fred Grant, who caught seven for 159 yards.
