TORONTO -- It's an hour before game time, and the frontcourt players of the Toronto Raptors are having a trash-talking good time. They're playing a variation of the old schoolyard game called knockout, in which one point wins. In this version, the scoring is allowed only in the low post, where strength is key.Which is fine with Tony Massenburg, who carries such a well-chiseled 245 pounds on his 6-foot-9 frame that his teammates call him "Hercules." A couple of dribbles here, a few pivots there and Massenburg has muscled 7-0 center Zan Tabak directly under the basket.

MILWAUKEE -- Hundreds of teammates and opponents have come and gone, many of them drafted higher and paid significantly more than Tony Massenburg. Several of Massenburg's coaches have left the NBA, too. Even one of his former teams, the Vancouver Grizzlies, changed towns, only to invite Massenburg back to add to his list of employers after the franchise moved to Memphis. Ask Massenburg, now 36 and a member of the Sacramento Kings, to talk about his 12-year, 12-team NBA career, and he'll ask you how much time you have to spend dissecting this odyssey.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- On the previous night they had put together their best offensive game of the season in a rout of the New Jersey Nets, and there were thoughts that maybe the Washington Bullets just might be able to accomplish a turnaround under new coach Bernie Bickerstaff. But something got lost in the 200 miles between the Baltimore Arena and Meadowlands Arena. The same teams played in the second part of a back-to-back series, and the results were drastically different. After scoring a season-high 125 points on Friday, the Bullets couldn't find the basket last night en route to a 107-86 loss to the Nets that could be more costly than the final score.
