Watch Lynchburg College's Tyler Tolson play, and you can easily see what makes him a good attackman. He is constant motion with or without the ball. His accuracy makes him one of the best finishers in college lacrosse. Lynchburg coach Steve Koudelka shakes his head in amazement when talking about Tolson. "Whatever God took away from Tyler Tolson, he gave back to him in other areas," Koudelka said. One of those areas happens to be perseverance. Tolson, a sophomore, has overcome two major surgeries on his left knee and a limb-lengthening procedure on the same leg nearly seven years ago. There were times when Tolson was more concerned about just stepping back onto the field, much less being one of the country's top scorers.

As Howard County officials prepare to choose buyers for two heavily discounted new garage townhouses today, Patricia Tolson still is trying to get used to her good fortune. Tolson's name was chosen at random from among 28 qualified applicants for the right to pay $200,000 for a 42 percent share of a large, renovated home on Columbia's Pamplona Road -- the same street where she grew up and where she and her 14-year old son, Anthony, have been living with her parents. "Is it for real then?"

It's the kind of bright, photogenic Saturday morning that would seem ideal for shooting a movie. But filmmakers Kevin Tolson and Sam McLaughlin are instead tucked away in a high school history office, hunched over an Apple computer. The seniors at Polytechnic Institute are patiently sifting through digital images - a task that appears to have all the drama of an IT appointment. Look closer, though, and it's clear the creative process is in full bloom. "A lot of this is based on gut instinct," Tolson, 18, says as he sorts through pictures from the 1950s.
