About 7,000 people came to the Harford County Equestrian Center on Tollgate Road for the first professional rodeo in Harford County last Saturday afternoon.More than 87 entrants from Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey participated in the Harford Rodeo, which was the first competition in the 1991 rodeo season.Rodeo organizers said they were happy with the attendance. A second Harford Rodeo is planned for next year.Proceeds from the rodeo will benefit the Harford County Farm Fair-4H-Equestrian Center building and maintenance fund.

Singer Road, west of Tollgate Road to Winters Run Bridge in Joppa, will be closed for about two months to all traffic for widening and reconstruction.School buses are not affected by the closure since their routes do not include this portion of the roadway. Emergency vehicles will be allowed access.Durham Road between Charles Street, off Route 165, and Bellchase Road will be closed on or about tomorrow for about six months. During this time, a Durham Road bridge over the west branch of Winters Run will be replaced.

A Pennsylvania man suspected of drunken driving led state police on a 20-mile chase around Bel Air yesterday morning and didn't slow down even after he was shot in the arm, authorities said. The 30-minute pursuit, which reached speeds of 90 mph, ended after troopers flattened the tires on the Lexus the man was driving, police said. Troy B. Nunemaker, 18, of Gettysburg was treated for a gunshot wound to his arm and was released from Maryland Shock Trauma Center. He was charged with several counts of first- and second-degree assault, driving under the influence, eluding police and numerous traffic violations.
