The Capitals will have G Olie Kolzig, 6-9-4 with a 2.47 goals-against average after allowing one goal in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the New York Rangers. Dallas is expected to use G Andy Moog, 18-10-3 with a 2.18 GAA. Capitals LW Craig Berube returns to the lineup after a two-game suspension and D Eric Charron was returned to AHL Portland yesterday.

LANDOVER -- A boisterous crowd at USAir Arena got plenty of hockey excitement last night as the Washington Capitals ground out a 4-2 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers.The victory came with last-minute heroics from right wing Jason Allison, who scored with 1: 48left to give the Caps a 3-2 lead. The game-winner completed a play started by Steve Konowalchuk and kept alive by Todd Krygier.Allison's goal from the slot was followed by a goal from Dale Hunter, who scored into an open net with 18.2 seconds left.

LANDOVER -- The Washington Capitals are no longer winless in the month of May.The Capitals are no longer winless in their Eastern Conference semifinal series with the New York Rangers.And the Rangers are no longer undefeated in the Stanley Cup playoffs.All of this unexpected news was brought about last night by a rousing Washington performance that resulted in a 4-2 victory over the Rangers, who could have clinched this series with a win."It keeps us alive," said Washington goalie Don Beaupre, who made 25 saves, while giving up a goal to Adam Graves 33 seconds into the first period and a power-play goal to Brian Noonan with 2:44 left in the game.

NORFOLK, Va. -- Todd Krygier scored two goals, including the eventual game-winner at 17:12 of the third period, and the Capitals defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 3-2, in Washington's preseason opener last night before 6,888 at The Scope.Washington had a 3-on-2 when Krygier, coming down the right side, took a pass from Keith Jones and blasted it past Dominik Hasek from about 20 feet to make it 3-1.Eleven seconds later, the Sabres' Matthew Barnaby scored, but Buffalo couldn't get the equalizer.
