" The two BFFs presented the fifth installment of the "History of Rap," rhyming their way through just about every hip hop hit you can imagine. They pay tribute to everyone, from Run DMC and Jay Z to N.W.A. and Kanye West. There isn't a much better way to close out Fallon's first week as host of "The Tonight Show. "

He can sing. He can dance. He can do color commentary for the NBA, shill for McDonald's and suck face with Cameron Diaz at the same time. He's Justin Timberlake. And he's unbearably annoying. At 22, Timberlake is the most sought-after American music act of the moment. We're not sure why, but we do know that it's really hard to take seriously a former Mouseketeer turned curly-haired homey. Rumor, in the form of In Touch magazine, has it that Timberlake is threatening to auction off love letters from ex-girlfriend Britney Spears and donate the profits to charity.

Which came first, Madonna's image or her music? In her 25-year career, the pop superstar's ever-changing look and provocations garnered more critical attention than her musical output. Yet in that time, she managed to score major hits and sell 200 million albums around the world. There's no question that her morphing image, which used to be surprising and daring, helped sell her music. Although her albums were often calculated appropriations of musical sub-genres, they used to offer thrills.

TO MEMBERS of Congress, little Peggy O'Neale, the daughter of tavern owner William O'Neale, was a joy. She was the extra-added attraction at the popular tavern on Pennsylvania Avenue that kept a "post coach and four horses" to haul tired legislators to and from Capitol Hill. They could have a night's lodging for 25 cents, fire and candle extra; a smooth toddy or two brandies with bitters for the same price. In their cups, they could gaze at the exquisite girl with a voluptuous form, dark brown curly PeterKumpahair, merry blue eyes, an apple complexion and the widest smile and prettiest white teeth in the city.

What did Justin Timberlake order at Phillips Seafood? He ordered the $84 "clam bake for two" - two whole Atlantic cold-water lobsters, snow crab legs, shrimp, clams, mussels, potatoes and corn on the cob. Timberlake is in Baltimore for Thursday night's Legends of the Summer concert at M&T Bank Stadium, where he is the co-headliner with Jay-Z. According to a spokeswoman for Phillips Seafood, Timberlake dined with four others in the Phillips' private dining room, where he was waited on by Masha Keith.

Justin Timberlake goes the Jason Bourne route in "In Time. " Oh, and his mom is Olivia Wilde. Let me explain. We're in the future, which looks to be sometime in 2050 or something. It's vague. it's also a future in which no one ages past 25. Sound good? If you're rich. See, you can buy time on your life, so you can live forever and look hot at 25. Unless you're poor like Justin Timberlake's character. Then you, well, die. Having your life timeline etched out on your arm is a constant, sad reminder.

NEW YORK - A few months ago, I was walking down 42nd Street in Midtown Manhattan and was surprised by a magazine cover being prominently displayed in the clear side window of a newsstand. Had the generally male-centric Details magazine really put Kelly Clarkson on its cover? There was a svelte brunette with those token beautiful eyes. When I got closer, I realized that it was really a picture of Zac Efron, the teen heartthrob of High School Musical fame. But in my defense, he looked downright girly.

On April 28, Madonna's final album for Warner Records - her home base for 25 years - debuts. The first single, a duet with Justin Timberlake titled "4 Minutes," has rocketed up the Top 40 Countdown meter faster than any song in the chart's 38-year history. It is No. 1 on iTunes. Perhaps most significantly, Ellen DeGeneres shimmies to it every day on her TV show. (Ellen now equals Oprah in shaping cultural cravings. If either of these women says, "Buy it! Love it!" - millions do.) So Madonna's swan song for Warner might be her biggest hit ever.

Americans huddled around water coolers yesterday much as they have after 37 Super Bowls before, but they weren't talking about "the big play," or even "the best commercial." This year - on coffee breaks, in e-mails, at women's organizations and at the headquarters of the Federal Communications Commission - they were focused on "the breast." Specifically, pop singer Janet Jackson's right breast - exposed when fellow performer Justin Timberlake tore off a piece of her gladiator's costume at the end of the duo's halftime performance of the song "Rock Your Body."

WASHINGTON - It was a week in which the president agreed to an investigation of prewar intelligence failures, a Massachusetts court affirmed gay marriage and ricin was found in a Senate mailroom. So naturally, everybody was talking about Janet Jackson's right breast. As you surely know, Ms. Jackson "unleashed the breast" (credit the phrase to a student of mine) during a Super Bowl halftime duet with Justin Timberlake. As the song ended, Mr. Timberlake ripped away Ms. Jackson's bustier and an audience of 90 million people got a flash of Jacksonian bosom, full exposure of which was prevented only by a nipple shield.
