A gator blows a jazz horn just like Satchmo. The evening star besots a firefly. The dark corners of 1920s New Orleans overflow with evil voodoo while, deep in the bayou, a blind priestess, Mama Odie, practices some positive swamp sorcery. With ingredients like that, Dee-Dee Jackson, the Atlanta-based national president of the activity and support group Mocha Moms, says that "The Princess and the Frog" delivers the "Disney pixie dust" that her friends came to expect when fairy-tale heroines kicked off the Disney-animation renaissance with "The Little Mermaid" (1989)

Tiana Holden was thrilled at Tuesday evening's dress rehearsal of Verdi's Aida, the classic tale of love and betrayal that opens tonight at the Lyric Opera House. During the intermission, she raved about the voices of Italian soprano Tiziana Caruso, who sang the title role, and her leading man, tenor Antonello Palombi. "It was amazing how they put so much expression into their singing," she bubbled. Tiana is a fifth-grader at Cross Country Elementary School in Baltimore. She may not start writing notes for Opera News next week, but given her enthusiasm, it's probably safe to say the 10-year-old may already be hooked on opera.

PHILADELPHIA - Tiana Duvall and a platoon of allies carried signs that read "Stop Police Brutality" and marched across Benjamin Franklin Parkway yesterday with determination. The crew - decked in ripped T-shirts, nose rings and pink hair - joined 7,000 protesters, creating a makeshift village on Philadelphia's widest street while denouncing everything from abortion to the death penalty. But the 24-year-old State University of New York student and her friends had more modest goals for the moment.
