A waitress in a tattered-hem cheetah-print miniskirt, black tank top, leather tool belt and a plastic bone-and-bead necklace, the pink bows on her fishnet socks peeking over Uggs, will bring you a big bowl of "three-flavored sauce chicken" and a plate of grilled sausages.

In this impressive guide, Colameco offers his informed opinion about the best of the city's eateries. He has dined at every restaurant in the book numerous times, spoken with the chef and owner, and spent time with them in the kitchen. He marvels at the concept of being able to eat "virtually anything from anywhere" less than an hour from Midtown.

NASCAR-themed restaurants run by Baltimore-based Cordish Co. will make their debut next year in Orlando, Fla., and Myrtle Beach, S.C., under an agreement giving the developer exclusive international rights to use the NASCAR brand in new restaurant and entertainment ventures. Cordish plans to open about two NASCAR Sports Grilles a year in high-profile locations such as New York's Times Square. In addition, the developer, which will own and operate the restaurants, expects to open up to three similar, but smaller, themed restaurants a year in more suburban locations.

Planet Hollywood International Inc. is looking to its movie-themed restaurant in Baltimore as it launches a makeover of the troubled chain, the Orlando, Fla.-based company said yesterday.Hoping to boost sales and profitability at a time of waning popularity of theme restaurants, the company said it will overhaul its menu, restaurant design and merchandise by April. Becoming profitable by 2000 will also entail cutting costs, in part, by franchising some restaurants outside the United States and possibly selling others, the chain said.

Angelina's restaurant on Harford Road, long known for its crab cakes, is now sending them as gifts all over the United States. The cost for six crab cakes, shipping and handling is $118. They can be frozen if not eaten in a couple of days. For more information call (410) 444-5545 or (800) CRABCAKE.* New in Cockeysville in the Cranbrook Road shopping center: Fazzini's Italian Kitchen. It's a small establishment, only 35 seats, with a thriving carry- out and delivery business. But co-owner Nick Schweitzer, who used to own Pizzapeel on 33rd Street, says everything is homemade: pasta, bread, meatballs, sauces -- everything.

I never understood why Stella's (1009 W. 36th St.) in Hampden didn't do better. Denise Whiting, who also owns Cafe Hon across the street, opened the cute little Italian restaurant in fTC 1996, then closed it the next summer when business slacked off, then reopened it last winter. Now she's sold it to Suzie Hong, owner of Suzie's Soba in the Belvedere.Hong fell in love with the location because of the porch in back. She's hired a landscape architect to fill it with plants and flowers and create a decor for the restaurant that's "very natural but trendy."

The Crash Cafe, a disaster-themed restaurant proposed for Key Highway that would feature part of a crashed and smoking DC-3 plane jutting out of the side, was dealt another setback yesterday. Owner Pat Turner thought he would get approval for his building permit yesterday, but a city interagency planning committee kicked the project back to him, saying his plans lacked specifics, such as fencing and pavement details for a parking lot. Turner had expected to have opened the restaurant - located at the defunct Globe Brewing Co. at 1321 Key Highway - which he describes as a "theatrical adventure," and others call offensive and distasteful - in the spring.

Wild things are about to happen in Towson.Rainforest Cafe -- a jungle-themed restaurant with simulated thunderstorms, talking trees, animated crocodiles and live parrots -- is moving forward with plans to open its first location in Maryland at Towson Town Center.The Minnesota-based chain, with 15 restaurants in the United States and three in other countries, joins other themed restaurants, such as Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe and ESPN Zone, that are making their way into the Baltimore area.

Look for a new restaurant to open soon where the Aegean, and before it the Mediterranean, used to be at 4901 Eastern Ave. The Olive Leaf, not to be confused with the Black Olive in Fells Point, will specialize in Mediterranean pastas.New in Butchers HillI've been hearing good things about Butchers Hill's new Simon's Pub (2031 E. Fairmount Ave.). It's a family affair, owned by Bruce Price and his son Simon. The menu is limited (about as long as the impressive draft beer menu). But the pub does offer more than just bar food, including shepherd's pie, grilled salmon, pastas and daily specials.
