On July 24, 2003, TESSIE JOHNSON, 97, a resident of Jessup, MD, for 50 years, died of natural causes in North Arundel Hospital. Beloved mother of Thelma, Edna, Herman, Gertrude, James and Van; twenty-four grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Viewing on July 28, from 3 to 8 P. M at Nutter Funeral Home. Homegoing Services will be held Tuesday, July 29, 11 A.M., at Community Baptist Church, 7344 Cedar Avenue, Jessup, MD, followed by burial at MD National Cemetery.

On March 19, 2009 PAUL VATAKIS; loving son of Argyro and the late Aristides Vatakis; dear brother of Tessie Vatakis. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Trisagion Service will be held at the family owned Duda-Ruck Funeral Home of Dundalk, Inc., 7922 Wise Avenue, on Sunday at 7 p.m. Mr. Vatakis will lie in state at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church on Monday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment Oak Lawn Cemetery. Also survived by two grandchildren, Christopher E. Meyer and wife, Charlotte " Mickie" and Amanda M. The Dropkick Murphys blend rock and traditional Irish music to create their own genre, Celtic punk. The band's popularity rose when its cover of the Boston Red Sox anthem "Tessie" became the team's official song during its 2004 World Series run. The Dropkick Murphys perform with the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, one of the originators of ska-core in the late '80s. The show is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Merriweather Post Pavilion, 10475 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia. Tickets are $35. Call 410-547-7328 or go to ticketmaster.

Dr. Tessie Behrens receives award from kidney foundation Ellicott City resident Dr. Tessie Behrens has received the Linda Cameron Award for Patient Services from the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland. Behrens is the supervising physician for Kidney Early Evaluation Programs, a service provided free to the public to target those at risk for kidney disease. Avtek promotes Neubauer to vice president of sales Avtek Associates, a manufacturers representative company in Columbia, has promoted Sandra Neubauer to vice president of sales.
